For the travel scraps #2 challenge. Thanks for this great prompt, I finally got this funny story down from our road trip to CA.

Journaling: We were in the Black Hills area of South Dakota, about to head through Wyoming on our way to California when Char decided she wanted to do a quick drive down to Nebraska since we were so close, so she could get a magnet from one more state. I had mapped out our whole route and said sure, and determine the best way to get there. I have no problems reading a map and figuring out which way to go, and I re-routed us heading south on 471. We were having a good ride, talking and laughing, and taking in the sights when I suddenly noticed a sign along the road that said. . .PAVEMENT ENDS. And just as I am about to say, what the heck does that mean? the paved road ended and we were now traveling on a gravel road. We laughed- and continued on. but that gravel road went on for MILES. . . and we were in the middle of no-where, no other cars passing us, and we started to get a little nervous, wondering how much further it went on, hoping nothing happened to the car because there was no cell coverage out there. Finally, after many miles, there was pavement again! I have never been so happy to see what we laughingly called “civilization.” During this time, I said, “ya know, on the map the road went from a single line to a
double line, but I ignored that not really knowing what it meant.” So I decided to then look at the
key in the front of the atlas. I now know it means UNPAVED road. So the moral of the story? Check the key to your map or you
may end up on an unplanned, and slightly nerve wracking adventure!
