Journaling reads: Byblos, Lebanon (March 24, 2010) - Byblos (or Jbeil in native language) is one of the world's oldest city, with at least 7,000 years history. Having been under occupation of many cultures, the place was wonderful to visit, full of amazing trivia. Did you know that the word 'Bible' actually came from the name Byblos, which means Papyrus in Greek? [big picture left] The sun was already high and strong when we arrived. We were grateful for the shade and all historical information that a small exhibit area inside this ancient Crusader's Castle had to offer. But the best thing about it was the upper deck where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the city, the sea, as well as modern-day Beirut near the horizon.
