On Saturday, May 22, Charlotte's Girl Scout Troop visited Sky Meadows State Park in Paris, Virginia. The grounds is a former civil war era farm that now offers activities such as camping, fishing and hiking (one trail connects with the Appalachian Trail). To say that it was beautiful is a grand understatement. Charlotte & I arrived early, so we were able to relax on the back porch of the Historic Mount Bleak House. From there we could look across the pastures to the neighboring farm. It was almost enough to make us want to move to the country! After everyone arrived we were given a short tour of the grounds, which included the summer kitchen and the combination laundry and ice house before we began our hike into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
