Dear Mom, I have been living many thousand of miles away from you for over three years now, and this is the hardest time yet to be so far away. Grandma is getting old and had a bad fall last month; she is afraid to live alone but won't come to stay with you either, and she always ends up getting what she wants. So you have to go several times a week from one side of the city, where you live, to the opposite side, where grandma lives, to check on her and bring her out when she needs to go shopping. I hate being so far away and not being able to help you. I try not to think that there is a very strong chance that you might never come to visit me again, because you would never leave grandma alone again now that she needs you so much. I try not to be selfish, but I sometimes fail, and I just wish you could be free to do as you please with your life. Free to come visit me, free to travel… I try not to think what I will do when you grow old. I know I will never be as good a daughter as you are, but I hope you thrive on my happiness too. I am happy here, but I really miss you. Are you happy, Mom? What can I do to make it better?
