When John said that he wanted a Captain Jack Sparrow costume I knew that I had to make something that would go along with it. so I embarked on a mission: to recreate Elizabeth Swan's gold gown from the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It was much harder to do than I had originally thought. It was the most extensive sewing project that I had taken on since I had made my wedding dress. I researched as much about the dress as I could online, making lists of materials and accessories that I would need to accomplish the task. Finding the material for the overdress was the most difficult part, but once I found that the rest fell into place. The most time consuming part was the front piece which included hand embroidery, cut-work and many hand-sewn pearls. The set included the overdress, underskirt, hoops and corset. I never did get around to making the chemise! But in the end I was thrilled with the product, and I just loved wearing it to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at The Magic Kingdom in October 2007.
