Journaling:
My Mom and I used to spend an entire weekend baking every year in December. We planned it for weeks in advance; the recipes, the shopping, the supplies, the timing. We would work on Friday night prepping, then early in the morning to late, late at night on Saturday and Sunday baking and decorating. We laughed and listened to Christmas music. In the end, we were tired! And we had thousands of cookies (yes, we counted) on dozens of beautiful cookie trays that we gave as gifts and took to parties. We were often told they looked like they came from a bakery and received many, many looks of disbelief. When I moved away, my Mom made me a book filled with the recipes we used and tips we learned and memories we had from all those years and from her childhood. She called it Judy and Jen's bakery. It’s been 6 years since we baked like this and now my kids are old enough to start experiencing this tradition. My Mom came to visit for Thanksgiving this year. So, we planned a mini-baking session of one whole day. Alexandria was so excited and helped from the planning stages all the way to cleanup! Zach is a little younger yet, so he popped in and out and saw all the activity and helped out, just not all day! The kids delivered gorgeous cookie trays to neightbors and friends and it was awesome to see them experience this tradition I have missed!
