- Journaling reads: "When you were a tiny baby, Daddy was always pestering me to get your ears pierced. Although I agreed that it would look cute, I wanted you to be old enough to make the decision for yourself. As you transitioned from a baby to a little girl, I knew it was only a matter of time before you noticed that many of your friends had their ears pierced and asked to have yours done. Sure enough, around Christmas time of 2007, when you were six years old, you asked Daddy, and he agreed. I was a little sad because it meant you were growing up, but I had made a deal with Daddy and had to honor it. We took you to Claire’s in the Aiken Mall on a Sunday afternoon. You were nervous but very brave. They let you hold a teddy bear who had multiple ear piercings while two girls pierced each ear at the same time. You didn’t shed the first tear and were so proud of your new earrings. When we got home, we took several pictures of you and your tiny diamond studs. It was official. You were now Mommy’s big girl."
