Journaling:
On our first full day in Vancouver,we wanted to head out
to Victoria to do some whale watching. What we didn't
realize was how limited the ferry schedule was. We basically
had one shot to make it over in time for our reservations. It
was about 30 minutes to the ferry, then another hour
and a half on the ship. We left in plenty of time...so we
thought! Turns out that everyone else wanted on the same
ship. As we got near the terminal, we saw signs that said
the ferry was FULL. So, I made a frantic phone call
to the whale watching company, explaining what happened
and all but begging them to make room for us on the 1:00
outing. They were able to, so we were ok. Once we got to the
terminal, the lady who took our money (over $80!) said we would
just have to wait and see. Crazily enough, we got on...and it
was one of the largest ferries we had ever seen. We were car
186 and many more came on after us. It had restaurants, a
lounge, shops, computer hook-ups, and just about anything
else you could imagine. We ate breakfast and then enjoyed
the scenery. We made it into Victoria in time for our original
appointment, but by then, the company had called back to
ask us to stay on the 1:00...the weather had turned very cold
and wet and they were afraid a morning cruise would be
miserable. So we hung out in Victora for a few hours before
heading out to sea...
