Journal reads: (I know there are lots of you from Utah so this may seem off the wall, but...)

Avery's last big project of second grade was a "float" about the state of Utah. We got on the internet together and looked through all different sites about the state and Avery finally decided to focus on the huge canyons, gorges, and arches of northern Utah. Avery started with a box that she turned upside down and wrapped in butcher paper. She and Dad collected rocks from around the yard which they attached to the box with spray adhesive. After letting the rocks dry overnight, Dad and Avery crumbled up brown lunch sacks to make the mountains and arches. Once they were dry and secure, Avery painted the rocks orange and brown. Then Wes spray painted the river blue and the remaining rocks brown. To finish off the project, Avery glued a copy of the state flag, bird, and flower to the front of her float. She took it to school and presented it to her class.

Very cool project! I love the look of concentration in her face as she works on it.
