Journaling:
It's true - shoes DO make the person. Avery has wanted a pair of lime green Chuck Taylor's for a while and was super excited to get a pair of high tops with purple laces for Christmas. She couldn't wait to wear them to school this week when they started back on Tuesday and has worn them every single day this week.
We have special time every night while going to bed. This is just our little time to be together in the quiet. We say our prayers, sing, and just talk and this is usually when I get various tidbits of information (some of which are very pertinent and some which are just plain funny). During our special time last night, Avery told me that one of the boys at school called her a "psycho" for wearing such weird shoes. We talked about it and she decided he was just being a silly boy & didn't really let it bother her. Fast forward to tonight. She tell me that one of her friends overheard some people talking about her shoes and she told them it wasn't very nice & Avery was her friend. I asked Avery if it bothered her and she said, "a little." We proceeded to discuss how other people's thoughts don't really matter as long as you like something & are comfortable with it. I also told her that if she was uncomfortable wearing the shoes (or anything for that matter) that she shouldn't and it wouldn't hurt our feelings at all either.
The moral is simple. My 8 year old daughter knows "who she is" and I hope she doesn't loose that confidence.

Awww! Kelli I love the journaling! So important that she knows who she is and that she is not going to be bothered by someone's silly biased judgement or prejudiced about her shoes! Those life lessons are so critical! Yea for you momma and yea for Avery! LOVE your white space and pops of the green!

This is fabulous Kelli!! The story is so wonderful. You kept the LO simple and the focus on the story and that's so perfect. The splashes of green are cool. Thank you for sharing! Hugs to Avery

Wonderful story! I'm so glad that she didn't let her bother her, and is able to stand up for who she is! Way to go Avery! Love the colors and word tags you used to scrap this page!
