Wes had noticed the check engine light on and even called On-Star every week or so to have them verify that the problem was nothing serious. He finally got a knowledgeable and helpful rep on the phone who looked a bit further and found that there was a serious engine problem that required immediate service work. After spending several days in the shop, we finally got word that one of the CAM's was going bad and they recommended replacing the engine. Really? This truck only has 77,000 miles on it! It looks like we may have received a bad oil change at some point that created this problem. A new engine would cost $8,000 or a used engine would cost $2,000. After going back and forth for several days, we finally decided to cut our losses (A/C troubles, locks not working, headliner falling, door molding falling off, dash lights randomly working/not working) and get rid of Wes's Chevy. I certainly feel lucky that we received so much for the trade in AND got an awesome deal on the new purchase too! |
