Journaling:
As far back as I can remember Grandma's house has been full of kids.
Twenty grandchildren, forty one (and counting) great grandchildren
and every kid in the neighborhood have played at her house. I can
remember kids knocking on the door asking if Myra could play. I don't
think there is a bike in the neighborhood that she hasn't fixed. At any
given time you can walk into her house and find the children of the kids
who have played at her house there. The door and the cookie jar are always
open.
Breelyn and William don't get to spend as much time at Grandma's as their
older sister or cousins have. Grandma is 80yrs old, still working and I worry
they'll wear her out. We had to be out of the house from 7am until about 3:30pm
for three days in a row so our house could be re piped. I decided to take them
to Grandma's. Did I say they'd wear her out? More like she wore us out!
From the minute we walked in the door it was go, go, go. Grandma would set
out the cookies and it would be a day of non stop play. They colored, did puzzles,
made buildings from dominos. They drew hopscotches with chalk, played on the
swing set and loaded a wagon with weeds and rocks. They explored every inch of
the house, made photo copies of their hands and walked along the wall in the front
yard. When would get home they were wearing Grandma's house! After dinner and
a bath they would go right to bed, no fuss, no muss and conk right out, something
they never do.
Mama who is never without a camera had so much stuff to haul back and forth kept
leaving the camera home but I'm sure playing at Grandma's house will be something
they'll always remember fondly just as my brothers, sister, cousins and the neighborhood kids
do. Besides Grandma's house is always open we'll just go back and play some more and take
pictures then!
