All American Chili by Stefanie

6 ounces Italian Sausage (hot or mild) (optional)
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped green pepper
2 garlic cloves minced
1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
1 package of chili seasoning
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon dried oregano
salt and pepper to taste
1-2 bay leaves
1 1/4 cups Merlot or other fruity red wine
2 15 oz cans of diced tomatoes, undrained
1 15 oz can of black beans, drained
1-2 15 oz cans of red kidney beans,drained
sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese for topping

Heat a large stockpot over medium-high heat. Remove casings from sausage. Add sausage,
onion, pepper, garlic and ground beef or turkey to pan. Cook til all the meat is browned,
stirring to crumble.

Add package of chili seasoning, tomato paste, organo, salt and pepper and bay leave and
cook for 3 minutes, stirring to mix flavors. Stir in wine, diced tomatoes, beans and tomatoes.
Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer one hour, stirring occasionally. Uncover and
cook for 30minutes. Discard bay leaves. Serve in a bowl with a dollop of sour cream and
chedder cheese. Enjoy!!
