A group of students, all girls, studying Spanish in Spain, have a free weekend that just happens to be when the peole of Pamplona in the north are celebrating La Fiesta de los San Fermines (San Fermin is their patron saint). Also known as the Running of the Bulls. We had no idea what we were in for. We stepped off the bus and the party started! Turns out the party starts in the evening and goes ALL NIGHT LONG. For a city where a million people visit and they only have 2500 hotel rooms, it evidently isn’t a problem because no one sleeps. We joined in the festivities and travelled all around the downtown. In the central square, people were dancing to the music and guys grabbed us and twirled us around and around. It was the stuff movies are made of! The next morning, the run began. We watched them run through the streets and into the bull ring where they held the daily bullfight. After the fight, the locals went home, went to bed and slept it off till it started all over again that evening. It was an experience I’ll never forget, and a time spent with people who will always be special to me!
