Tuesday Challenge- 2/5/08

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Okay Tuesday Challenge Scrappers! It’s me, Kristie, with your next template challenge! When I’m short on ideas and time, I love to go back to some of my old layouts and create a little template to reuse. Part of the fun in doing this is to use the same key elements and make your new layout look as different as possible. My challenge for you is to download my freebie template I created from one of my old favorite layouts and make it brand spanking new with your own cool twists.

Here is my original layout I made a few months back:

new-glasses-sep-07sm.jpg

and here’s a preview of the template I created from it:

To enter, just download and use my template from here (sorry link expired), then post your layout in the gallery at www.ScrapMatters.com, and make sure to post a link in the Tuesday Template Challenge Thread in the forums at ScrapMatters. We’ll pick two winners (my favorite and one randomly drawn) to each receive a $5 giftcard to ScrapMatters.
Can’t wait to see what you all come up with!
Kristie

Here’s a little inspiration for you from our incredible CT at ScrapMatters. To view credits for layouts, check out the gallery at ScrapMatters.com

I love the action on Katie’s entry:

What Matters Monday – Fonts!

Monday, February 4th, 2008

It’s What Matters Monday and when I was thinking about what to write about it occurred to me that fonts really matter to me!  I have ALWAYS been a font freak, LONG before I digital scrapbooked.  Finding just the right font is so fun!  Collecting fonts I like, searching through dafont.com, it’s just so fun!

Recently I was introduced to kevinandamanda.com.  This site has collected TONS of amazing free fonts all PERFECT for scrapbookers!  I LOVE it.  Check ‘em out and have fun downloading!!  I especially love the Pea handwriting fonts.

Like I said, dafont.com has a lot of really fun fonts as well.  From handwriting or typewriter fonts for journaling, to funky cool fonts for titles, having a great font makes for a great LO.  I browsed through my own gallery for LO’s where I think the fonts really shine.

I created my title on this page with two great fonts: a new favorite, Social Animal & Jane Austen.  No alphas or brushes needed!  Just quick and easy fonts!!

Susie’s Hand is a digital scrapbooker’s favorite!  I’m sure most of you already have it, but isn’t it GREAT?

I also used “Love Ya Like A Sister” on this page for the word “cafe”.  It’s a Kimberly Geswin font.  LOVE it!!

On this one I used some good fonts!

For my friends’ names I used “Carpenter“.  So elegant and pretty.  It just screams wedding!  The “&” is from  Footlight MT Light, a stock font that was already in my computer.  And the journaling is a font I use on almost every other LO I do, “Traveling Typewriter“.  Honestly, look at my gallery.  You will see this little puppy on SOOOO many pages!   It’s the perfect grungy typewriter font without being too grungy or hard to read.

Ok, one more . . .

I had seen this cute font on a bunch of pages in galleries and HAD to get it for myself! “Pea Sarahloo” is the name.  And the date is just “Century Gothic”, another stock font on my computer but one I also use A LOT.  If I’m not using “Traveling Typewriter” I’m probably using “Century Gothic”.

Alrighty – are you convinced that fonts make a big difference?!   Have I bored you to tears yet?

I always put the fonts in my credits, because a font deserves it as much as our kits do!  AND I hate when I see a great LO with a REALLY cute font, but they haven’t put what font it is!  Then I don’t know where to get it!!  Haha.

So, fonts are fun.   A LOT of the time they can be free!   And they are a REALLY easy-peasy way to pump up a LO.  Try a new font on that page you’re working on right now!

Have a great Monday!

xoxo,

Sunday’s Super Spotlight!

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

the-sunday-spotlight-web1.jpg

Hello faithful bloggers! Tami here with my first Sunday Spotlight! As I was searching the gallery, my little eyes were captivated by the amazing photos and adorable layouts created by Taterslp (a.k.a. Stacy). I opened her gallery and was amazed at what I found! Check out some of my favorite layouts:

This is one of her newest creations. Seriously, how cute is that photo? And I LOVE the embellishments following the circle stitch. So cute!

This is something I’ve been meaning to do since January 1st! Start my digi-journal. Perhaps this will give me the push I need to get it started. I love the alpha stamp and the glitter. They just add the perfect touch.

And finally, this beauty of her boys:

How cute is that look between her boys? Really! What a GREAT shot! And she used the perfect kit for it, “Lil Brudder” by Britt-ish Designs. Hehehe! I just love it!

Ok, so here is a little more insight to the woman behind all the great work:

What is your main job/career?
I am a SAHM.

Are you married/kids/pets?
I have been married for almost 10 years to the most wonderful man!!! I had just graduated from high school and was attending community college and his mother was in one of my classes and she asked me one day if I had a boyfriend. I told her “No” and then a couple of days later he showed up at my work and introduced himself. I was hooked on him ever since!! I have a stepson who will be turning 16 this year. He was two years old when my husband and I started dating so it’s been so wonderful watching him grow up from a toddler to a teenager now. We also have a 4 year old son who keeps us very busy! As far as pets go well…no pets yet. My year old keeps trying to talk us into getting him a puppy… but I’m like hmmmm… what about a FISH!!

Where do you call home?
Illinois for now.

What are your three favorite foods?
French Fries, French Fries and ummm, oh yeah…FRENCH FRIES. (Hey, they don’t call me TATER for nothing!)

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
I have lots of favorite ice creams but I love Baskin Robbins peanut butter and chocolate!! Yummy!!

Do you prefer salty or sweet snacks?
Definitely salty!!

What is your favorite beverage?
Capri Suns!! (I blame my 4 year-old!)

What is your least favorite food?
Hot Cereal!!! Like oatmeal, malt-o-meal, grits, cream-of-wheat… I can’t mention any more cause I’m getting queezy!! Yuck!!

PC or Mac?
PC

How long have you been digi-scrapping/How did you get into it?
I have been digi-scrapping for about 5 months now and boy am I HOOKED! I have been a traditional scrapbooker ever since I was a teenager and it was my all time favorite hobby. One day I saw the words “DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING” on one of the forums that I belong to. I clicked on it and I was amazed and excited to learn that I could combine my love of computers and scrapbooking. I immediately jumped in and joined this very friendly community of Digi-Scrapbooking and haven’t looked back. I am sooo addicted!! I seriously need to think about joining some type of digi-scrap support group or something. (If anyone knows of any…let me know. lol.)

What program do you use to digi-scrap with?
PSE 6

What are your hobbies besides digi-scrapping?
Card making! I love to make my own paper greeting cards.

What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you?
Ok, I’m gonna let you in on a little secret… but shhh… don’t tell anyone… When it comes to digi-scrapbooking I’ve noticed that I struggle when it comes to putting multiple photos on a page. I’m not sure what my deal is…but take a look at my gallery…you won’t find too many LO’s of mine that have more than one photo. So that’s one of the things that I’m going to work on. That’s why I love the ScrapMatters challenges…whenever I’m working on a LO for a challenge I always learn a new technique or design that I would not have normally attempted on my own.

What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking?
On my…there’s so many… Well I would love to learn how to sing!!! So that way I can audition for my favorite tv show…American Idol!! But considering I can’t sing one note in tune…I guess that won’t happen any time soon. (Although I guess I could make it on their bloopers tape as one of the rejects.) lol!

What are your favorite books/authors?
Right now I’m into anything by Dr. Seuss, and all books about Thomas the Train. (Sorry, I’m the mother of a 4 year old…the only time that I have to read is when I’m reading to my son at bed-time. Not good, I know.)

What is your favorite quote?
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” Maya Angelou

What is one of your goals for 2008?
To spend more alone time with just my husband and I and to not worry so much. And I might as well say, “Lose a few pounds” because it’s on my list every year!

Where do you find inspiration for your layouts?
All over the place… from magazines, children’s book, artwork in my home and from the homes of my friends and family.

How much time are you able to spend scrapping each week?
My husband’s a basketball coach so here’s my rule…when he’s doing his hobby I’m doing mine! So depending on his schedule this could be anywhere from 5 – 10 hours a week.

Tater just has a way of capturing that perfect moment and translating it beautifully onto “paper!” So congrats Taterslp on being our Sunday Spotlight today. As our “Thank You” for playing along, you’ll receive a $10 shopping spree to the Scrap Matters shop! We’ll PM you your code shortly so you can start shoppin’!

So if you need a little creative boost, take a minute to stop by her gallery and get some great inspiration for your own layouts. You’ll be glad you did! Have a wonderfully relaxing Sunday! See you tomorrow!
