Mother’s Day is Coming! (free wordart)

what-matters-monday-web.jpg

Hi everyone! A very LATE Tami here. Sorry for the extreme tardiness! But with dentist appointments, EKG’s and MRI’s (both unexpected today!), I’m running SOOOO far behind! My focus today is on Mom’s. As we all know, Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and I’ve been thinking about my mom lately, and what I could possible give to her for Mother’s Day. Well I decided to make her something! I don’t do that a lot, but this time I thought I’d put a bit into it, because to me, she is one thing that matters most!

So I decided to scrap something for her. I am going to try Britt’s hybrid project, shown here, and see how it turns out! (Hope Mom doesn’t read today’s entry!! AHH!) It is a work in progress, so I don’t have anything to show you (how lame is that?!?!) but I do have some little quotes for you. Seems like I really love them lately, so I wanted to share some on motherhood. I know not all of us are moms, but I KNOW we all have one! Whether your mom is still in your life, or if you have another woman that filled that roll for you, or whether you have a daughter who has become a mother, I’m sure we all have women we love and would like to honor. This week I’d like to challenge you to find a way to honor the women in your life who have had a wonderful influence on you. Have a fantastic Monday and I hope your week is a great one!

Sunday Spotlight ~ Ellie Lash

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

the-sunday-spotlight-web.jpg

Hello Everyone,

It is me again Mandy Rae back again with another fab Sunday Spotlight. This time We are spotlighting Ellie Lash a most fabulous Designer here at ScrapMatters. Ellie is just amazing, I love her designs and I love her lo. Trust me you will to I have a whole lot to spotlight here it was just to hard to only pick a few. So with out further hesitation Ellie Lash.

What is your main job/career?

I am a stay-at-home-mom. I also design for ScrapMatters and have my own little store.

Are you married/kids/pets?

I have been married to my very best friend in the whole world, Chris, for just shy of seven years now. We have 18 month old twin boys, Adam and Luke, who keep me very busy!

Where do you call home?

We live in Arizona and I love it so much here, but I was born and raised in Hawaii so I feel like that is home as well.

What are your three favorite foods?

Sushi (any kind withoutraw fish!), teriyaki steak, and (my new favorite!) the Pioneer Woman’s apple dumplings. You haven’t tried them yet??? Well, what are you waiting for? LOL You can find the recipe HERE.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Vanilla, if it’s on something (like apple dumplings! lol) or just plain chocolate if it’s all by itself.

Do you prefer salty or sweet snacks?

Both!

What is your favorite beverage?

Pepsi with lots and lots of ice, but I gave up drinking soda at the start of the year, so now it’s water.

What is your least favorite food?

Green peppers.

PC or Mac?

PC

How long have you been digi-scrapping/How did you get into it?

Well, to be honest I’m not much of a scrapper! lol I used to be a siggy maker and a built skins for forums, then I started noticing people using these scrap kits that were sized at 72 DPI and I thought they were really neat, so I started designing those. Eventually I realized that there was a whole other scrapping world where people used full print size scrap kits! I found a class taught by Jen Maceyunas where she taught the fundamentals of digital scrapbook design and from then on I was hooked on designing. I am still learning when it comes to actual scrapping, though. I don’t post many layouts because they’re all rather amateurish! Lol I’m always amazed by the LO’s I see in the gallery. Everyone is so talented!

What program do you use to digi-scrap with?

I use PSPX2, PSCS3, and ArtRage.

What are your hobbies besides digi-scrapping?

I love to read. Seriously, if I could have a stack of books and a few hours all to myself I would be the happiest woman in the world!

What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you?

Keeping it fun. So often I get caught up in making the deadlines that I’ve set for myself that I forget that this is supposed to be fun! lol Sometimes I just have to step back for a reality check.

What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to
scrapbooking ?

Dance. I took dancing classes for a while a few years ago and it was SO fun. I would totally love to get back into that.

What are your favorite books/authors?

Ooh, I have so many!!! My top two right now are Diana Gabaldonand her Outlander series and Robert Jordan and his Wheel of Time series.

What are your favorite movies?

I love anything based on Jane Austen’s novels! And I’ve been known to watch all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies repeatedly.

What is your favorite quote?

No great thing is created suddenly. —Epictetus

What is one of your goals for 2008?

To work smarter, so that I can spend more time away from the computer doing things with my family.

OK now that we know a little about Ellie lets see some GOODIES!

First up I thought I would share some of her lo’s that she is just way too modest about. I only wish I had half the amount of talent she does. Here are her  faves

Something Special Saturday – SM is special!!

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

It’s Saturday, and Saturday’s are ‘something special’ at ScrapMatters. Normally Andrea, our fearless leader, writes on Saturday but she’s off a-travelin’ the world with her hubby.  So, here I am fillin’ in!

When I was thinking about what to write – what was “special” about this Saturday – I started to think about what a fun, special place ScrapMatters is. I think finding positive, happy, talented and fun scrappers is something special!! Lately, I’ve been in awe at the amazing LOs posted in the gallery. Our little site has just grown and developed so much lately. I don’t know – maybe I’m biased – but I feel like SM is something special!!

And to add to that special feeling, I’m going to start a little “Did you see???” LO game in the forum. Here’s how it works:

When you see a LO pop up in the SM gallery that you feel is extra SPECIAL, give it a little extra love by posting the LO, and a link to it (see below how to post an active correct link) in this thread. Then, go leave that LO a comment filled with love, as well as the LO posted above yours (and as many more above yours as you want). Make sense?

Keeping our little community close and connected is the key to a happy and fun place to be. All LOs deserve comments and love. Everyone worked hard on them, and has created something that records their precious photos. So – play long with us in the forum! It’s going to be fun!!

I’m starting with this FABULOUS LO that just popped up today by one of wonderful CT gals, Melbby, called “Have Fun”. So brave, so bold! I LOVE IT!

I left her some love, now you do the same and post a LO you think is special to the thread. Come on over to the forum and play along.

Have a special Saturday!!!

xoxo,

Thanks for playing and keep those pictures coming!

Theory Thursday ~ shadow shoutouts!!

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Today’s entry is gonna be pretty short and sweet.  I’ve been working hard on my own shadows lately and I’ve been inspired by some FABULOUS shadow work I’ve been seeing in the gallery.  I just want to showcase some LOs from the SM gallery that are ROCKIN’ some amazing shadow work!  (all images are clickable and will take you to see full credits)

First up – this adorableLO by Danica (babeiz).  It’s page 1 of a 2-pager.  The depth she’s got going on here is awesome.  It really looks like the elements have been piled on.  I LOVE THIS!!

This LO is by the fabulous Zakirah.  This LO proves that shadows do not need to be strong and striking to be FABULOUS.  This LO looks so real.  Those flowers in the bottom left corner really look like they are standing up off the paper!  WOW Z – this LO ROCKS!!!

Sya (syapotter) added total realism with her shadow work on this page.  It look FABULOUS!

Ok – one more.  Even though there are a LOT more I could show you.  This one  by  Linz (mikelinz).  It’s tricky to shadow beads and hanging items and she ROCKED IT!!!  I love this LO!

So – take these LOs and the many others in the gallery with great shadows and keep working at your own shadows.  I know I will!!!  Shadows really turn a so-so LO into a WOW LO!!!

Have a happy Thursday!!

Disney-Mania is Sweeping the Scrapping World! (FREEEEEBIE!!)

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Hi all–Tami here. Can you feel it?! And it all started here at ScrapMatters! (At least I think so, thanks to Britt-ish Designs!!!) This mania has been encouraged by two amazing kits, Dreams Do Come True and Leave the World Behind (and their corresponding blog freebie kits from Britt’s blog). These amazing digital scrapping supplies have finally given all of us Disney lovers great options to scrap all those fun pictures we’ve collected from Disneyland!! FINALLY!! Yay!

So this got us to thinking, Britt and I, what could help Words for Wednesday celebrate this new passion for all things Disney? (I got a ton of help from Brittney… ok, so this was basically all her idea! Thanks, chica!) MOVIE QUOTES!!! They’re words, they’re fun and there are SOOO many great ones!!

Have you ever heard something in a movie that would be PERFECT for a LO? I know I have, and most are from Disney movies, thanks to my sweet sons who can’t get enough of them… Do any of you ever think you’re being sucked into a movie because you’ve watched the same one 42 times in a row? hehehe!

So this is our theme for Words this week – Movie Quotes. You gotta love it! But what you’ll love even more is that Britt designed some FREE, yes, FREE! Disney movie word art that coordinates with her Disney kits. Yee haw, cowboy! They are yours for the taking! All we ask is that if you take them, you take a look at her kits (I know you’ll HAVE to have them!!) and post your LO’s using them so we can all oooh and aaah over your creativity!

To get your imaginations going, we each designed a LO using Britt-ish Designs “Leave the World Behind Kit” and one of our favorite movie quotes. Here’s my take on Cinderella’s famous quote:

disney-castle-web.jpg

And Britt works with a quote from Woody (Toy Story). Seriously, how unbelievably cute is this layout!?! She’s amazing!

Introducing “You Can Quote Me: Animation” by Britt-ish Designs!! You can download it HERE.0_brittdes_ycqma_preview.jpg

If you need a few more quote ideas, here are some we came up with:

1. “The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.” – The Emperor (Mulan)

2. “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.” – Winnie the Pooh

3. “Curiouser and curiouser!” – Alice (Alice in Wonderland)

4. “Just blow the candle out my dear, and make your wish come true!” – Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland)

5. “Drip, drip, drop! Little April Shower.” (Bambi)

6. “Wherever I wander, wherever I roam, I couldn’t be fonder of my big home” – Baloo (The Jungle Book)

7. “That was the best vacation ever! I love our family!” – Dash (The Incredibles)

8. “Keep moving forward.” – Cornelius Robinson (Meet the Robinsons)

9. “The past can hurt. You can either run from it or learn from it.” (The Lion King)

10. “Hakuna Matata!” – Timone (The Lion King)

11.  “To Infinity and Beyond!” – Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story)

12.  “Float like a Cadillac, sting like a beemer!”  Lightning McQueen (Cars)

So download away, Disneyland lovers! We can’t wait to see your magical moments!
