What Matters Monday

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Hi Kate (kateypie) here with a few tips for Monday.

I don’t really have anything profound to say, I just thought I’d summarise a few of the things that I think are really important in scrapping.

1) Take lots of photos – even of things you think might be boring.  You never know what can make a great page.  It’s not always about fantastic photos – some of my favourite pages to look back on are photos of just ordinary things, or ordinary moments, and they certainly aren’t technically good photos!  I love digital cameras.. you can take hundreds of photos and end up with a couple of photos that you absolutely love.  I try and take lots of photos whenever I get the camera out, and sometimes I surprise myself.

2) Journaling! I’ve just started journaling more on my pages after reading some of the great posts on here about capturing those precious memories.  I read somewhere that if you don’t journal, then you aren’t scrapbooking, you’re just showcasing a photo.  I agree in some respects, although I do have a few pages I’ve done with no journaling, and I still love them too!  Journaling is the key though, when you think about the real reason most of us scrap – to preserve memories.

3) Browse the galleries and leave love.  Not only do you brighten someone elses day, there is SO much wisdom and skill out there – you are bound to pick up loads of great ideas!

4) Lists! I have a list of things I want to scrap about, and doing a list every so often helps me remember to grab a photo when the opportunity arises, or it reminds me when I see new kits, and I know what I’ll be able to scrap with them.

5) Keep it fun! In my opinion, don’t agonise over your pages for too long, if you have to force it then leave it and come back to it another day, or start over!

6) Try and scrap lots of different subjects.  I know those of us with kids quite often stick to scrapping pages of our little ones, but sometimes it’s quite refreshing to step outside the square and scrap about your favourite dessert, or your mail box, or your christmas tree.. whatever takes your fancy.

I think that’s all from me today.  Keep those gorgeous pages coming in the gallery – we love seeing what you are all creating!
