ScrapMatters March Newsletter is Here…

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Hello—I can’t believe how easy it is to hit the wrong button in phpList–I thought I was pushing test and hit send.  I might go back to our old newsletter mailer, at least you could stop it when there was a mistake.  I think the newsletter is going out now, but you might get a blank one first or not.  Since I really can’t tell what’s going on with the mailing I thought I would post this month’s newsletter here.  So keep reading and you’ll find all of the important links!

It’s hard to believe that March is here already. I’m happy to present the March issue of the SM newsletter. Included as usual in our newsletter is a fabulous free kit. This month features a fabulous travel-themed kit called “Enjoy the Journey” by Heather (Dirty Feet Designs) and Wendy (wm2 designs).  There is also a great tutorial by Heather of Joy Revisited Designs.

ScrapMatters Newsletter March 2009

Our Design Star Contest is moving along just great.  It was so hard to narrow down the contestants.  We received 90 mini-kits and tried to pick 20 favorites–we just couldn’t do it, so there are 25 contestants moving on to round two.  The round one mini-kits are almost finished as freebies and the round two paper packs are going up tomorrow morning.  So hurry to get these fabulous freebies while they are still available in one convenient place.

If you’re looking for the freebies log into our forum and hop on over to the gallery from there and check out all of the free mini-kits/paper packs in the Design Star category (you have to scroll down to almost the bottom of the gallery to find them). You must be registered and logged into the forum first and then click on the gallery button to see the entries.

We’re giving you several options from which to download your newsletter. They all have the exact same newsletter.

Here is the 4shared link to the March newsletter,

I hope you enjoy it. Andrea & the SM newsletter group

New monthly hybrid challenge – Project reNEWit

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Photobucket

Hi everyone, Heather (hedderlee) here to announce our very first Project reNEWit monthly challenge! You may be familiar with Project reNEWit from previous blog posts. It is such a neat concept that we decided to expand its reach here at ScrapMatters. The items in your home that would otherwise be dumped into the recycling bin or – gasp – shoved into the garbage can get a second life as art through your participation in this challenge. Fellow ScrapMatters member Donna Sangwin, our resident recycling expert and director of reCREATE, and the hybrid team will be offering fresh takes on enviro-crafting.

My home produces a substantial amount of scrap paper because of my daughter Amanda’s homeschooling. But rather than forcing my kids and husband to use the other side of the scrap paper, which they refuse to do, I created some notepads with them using Simply Sweet Designs’ Celebrate With Me kit:

notepad4

The tutorial to create notepads is included in the March ScrapMatters newsletter – be on the look out for it!

And some matchbook notepads:

You can find the template for the notepads in the shop.

This made me realize that there are so many creative possibilities to use these scraps. So for the March challenge, we will be creating projects with scrap paper that have gone through your home or work printer. Please be aware that this does not refer to junk mail or newspaper; these materials will be handled in future challenges. We’re looking for your scrap paper projects, folks.

Take a look at hybrid team member Jaime’s (ocmath) take on this month’s scrap paper challenge!

Here she created a notebook using scrap paper folded in half and cardboard from a recent photo order.

And Jaime’s versions of the matchbook notepads have little activities printed on them. How clever!

Just a little reminder: As part of the Matter of Scrap challenge system, you will receive one point for each completed, photographed project. Remember, you must post in both the subforum and in the gallery to receive credit. A random winner will be selected to receive an additional point just for participating.

Can’t wait to see your goodies in the gallery and forum!

Heather
