The Saturday Speical 11.14.09 – jendavey

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Ladies I am running a day behind so I apologize!!

Hi everyone I am here to bring you this weeks Saturday Special. One thing that I am seeing a lot of right now is photo collages. So I thought that would be a great topic for our saturday speical.

An important prerequisite for creating a photo collage is you must ensure that you’ve got enough photos to be placed in it. I want to see your pictures take up a majority of your page. Here are just a few steps to help you get started:

1. Laying out your grid: Take a look at the size of your layout and how your pictures will fit best. You pictures don’t all have to be the same size, they just have to fit together on the page.

2. Get Creative: There are thousands of combinations you can do with a photo collage…use your imagination!!

3. Set Your Canvas: Choose your size, layout, and photo placement

4. Create Your Background: This will set the stage for your photo collage. Decide how many papers, mats, etc. you want under your photos.

5. Crop your photos: make sure they are the size you want them in order to fit with your other pictures. Or crop them all the same size. Totally up to you!

6. Position your photos: Place your cropped photos where and how you want them on your page according to the grid you had mapped out in the begining

and ta-da you have a photo collage.

Here is my photo collage I created for this challenge. And don’t worry there are MANY templates in the store that can help speed you through these steps.

I used the new Slice of Life Design Team collab kit and EZ templates #7 by Erica Zane

And here are some amazing photo collages from the SMCT girls:

This I interviewed CT member Sarah aka Sarahtawisha.  I love her scrapping style and was excited to get to know her better!

1. Your screen name? Your real name?

My screen name almost everywhere is sarahtawisha. My real name is Sarah Bennett.

2. What is your main job/career?

I’m currently a stay at home mom by day and digi-scrap designer by night.

3. Are you married/children/pets?

I’ve been married for 3 years and have two children, Andrew (2) and Allison (1). They are 14 months apart and it’s a wonder I have time to do anything else. I also have 2 stepdaughter’s (9 & 7) and 2 dogs (black lab and a toy fox terrier)

4. Where is home for you?

A small town in Indiana. I have lived the majority of my life in the same area I was born.

5. What are your 3 favorite foods?

This is a tough one. Three things that I would never get tired of eating are probably chicken club pizza, potatoes in any form and cherries.

6. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

I’m not a big ice cream person mainly because I really don’t like chocolate, but I love pretty much any flavor of frozen yogurt. I will occasionally eat Homemade brand Cherry Cordial ice cream.

7. Snacks…Salty or Sweet?

I don’t snack a whole lot anymore, but I would say I lean towards sweets.

8. Beverage of choice?

Cherry Coke

9. What’s your least favorite food?

Do I have to pick just one? I generally stay away from green peppers and sausage.

10. PC or Mac? What program do you use?

PC. I do the majority of my scrapping in PSP 12

11. How long have you been digi-scrapping? How did you get started?

I’ve been digi-scrapping since January 2008. I learned about it from a group of ladies on an April 2007 birth board. They had a digi-scrap thread and I was curious about what it was and once I started I haven’t stopped. A lot of us from that group are still scrapping together and it’s nice to be able to see how we’ve all grown.

12. What was your 1st LO about?

I honestly don’t remember what my first layout was. I’m sure it was about my son, but I’ve deleted a lot of my beginning layouts because they were so bad.

13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)?

Seriously, are there any other hobbies? I like to read and cook. I used to be really crafty, but it all ended when little fingers started getting into everything which is why I love digi-scrapping so much!

14. What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you?

Choosing pictures that match kits. I like to coordinate the two and sometimes it’s hard to find something that works. I’m also still working on perfecting my shadows. I will probably always find this challenging.

15. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking?

I would love to learn to take better pictures. I would also love to learn to cook better.

16. What are your favorite movies/TV shows?

I don’t watch a lot of television mainly because we no longer have a DVR and it’s hard to watch anything that isn’t animated in my house. I do love How I Met Your Mother and late night Food Network. I love watching Alton Brown, he’s so smart.

17. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where?

I generally don’t scrap until everyone else is asleep. My desk is in our living room and I usually have the tv on the Food Network. Sometimes I’ll turn everything off and just enjoy the silence.

18. If you only had 2 elements to use on a LO, what would they be?

I would probably have to say stitching and fasteners. I feel like things should be held down and if I were to actually pick up the layout nothing would fall off.

19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…?

hmmm…. My birthday is on the 13th and the only times it has ever been on a Friday it has also been Good Friday.

20. Can you tell us a little about your scrappin’ style?

I like my layouts to look real, like they could have been done with paper. Other than that, I don’t really think I have a style. I like the layouts of my kids to be fun and bright because the pages are for them and they’re toddlers right now. I also love soft and delicate pages and will do the majority of my non-kid layouts in this style.

21. Favorite LOs that you have done?

I think Sail Away is my favorite layout, and I think it’s the picture that I love the most.
Sail Away

Thanks Sarah for letting us get to know you a little better!!  Check out Sarah’s awesome gallery here.  Be sure to stop by and leave her some love!
