Project of the Week!

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

Here is a stunning card by knlchevys to brighten up your day. I love the deep colors she chose for the button and the beautiful flowers. The layered papers also add depth to the card and that simple “thinking of you” rounds it out perfectly.

Congratulations! Be sure to stop by the gallery and forum to leave some love for this great card!!!

Layout of the Week!

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

I fell in love with this layout by jennshultz the moment I saw it! It is absolutely beautiful. I love the way she used the pinks to accent certain photos and, of course, those rolled flowers are spectacular. The layered papers give an awesome frame to the layout and all the flowers make it simply stunning! How could you not love that sparkly alpha too? Please leave her some much-deserved love in the gallery!

Congrats Jenn! Be sure to stop by the forum or gallery and leave some well deserved love!

Sunday Spotlight – Guest Designers!!!

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

Happy Sunday one and all! Hope you are all enjoying some wonderful fall weather. I’m super excited to bring you our two guest designer interviews today…Mye DeLeon and Studio Flergs!

First up, I’m going to let you get to know Mye DeLeon.

1. Your screen name? Your real name? My screen name is “Mye” but my real name is Myrlyn De Leon

2. What is your main job/career? I used to be an Infrastructure Lead for a teleco project. I was in the IT world for almost 10 years until I decided to leave the corporate world and devote my time with my family and my designs.

3. Are you married/children/pets? I have been married to Kris for almost six years and we were blessed with twin daughters, Scieszka Raine and Elysia Raine. I gave birth to them at 31weeks and now very proud to see that they have grown so much and now in Kindergarten. We also have 2 dogs who have been with us since the day after I got married.

4. Where is home for you? Like the overused cliche goes,  “Home is where the heart is.” I find home whenever I am happy and I feel accepted. Being with my family, friends and being with my digi-community. That is “home” for me.

5. What are your 3 favorite foods? I love spaghetti, cake and salad *wink wink*

6. PC or Mac? What program do you use? I use PC and Adobe Photoshop CS 3 extended. I already have CS 5 but I still don’t have the confidence to use it. I will install it soon and will try to grasp everything new in there.

7. What is the most challenging part of designing for you?  The elements. Each of the pieces in a kit should go well together and sometimes, even if I have completed a whole kit and felt like the elements aren’t complementing well, I scrap it and will have to redo everything from scratch.

8. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking? I want to get better at cooking and be able to play volleyball. I used to play volleyball during PE classes in highschool and college but I have always wanted to get better at it and enjoy it more. I love watching cooking shows too and learning a lot of recipes. I still aim to be a good cook so DH won’t complain about my cooking again lol!

9. What are your favorite movies/TV shows? I watch cooking shows some times but I am not a TV fanatic really. My favorite movie is The Lord of the Rings. I used to be so in love with the character of Legolas that I even have a photo of him in my wallet haha! Oh I have it until now!

10. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where? I want a clean environment when I am scrapping or designing. I don’t want clutter in my desk. I sometimes play music but mostly are Japanese anime themes. I don’t understand the songs but I love them. I need to have a cup of coffee at least once a day (since 3 weeks ago?)

11. If you only had 2 elements to use in a kit, what would they be? I would say a flower and a leaf branch. I can already make a cluster with those.

12. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…? A little known fact about me? Hmm, I am not the usual me if I release a product without additional packs. I used to hate clustering but now it has been one of my regular kit add ons. I have learned to love and include frame clusters and element clusters in my releases.

13. When did you start designing? What is your favorite product that you’ve designed? I started in August of 2009 but was given a break at a store in October that year. My favorite product so far is the “The Magic Is Here”

and “That’s My Kid”

I enjoyed creating both of them and I just love the colors.

14. How would you describe your design style? I don’t really know what to call it though some call it eclectic. I’d say more on the traditional? I love using realistic elements on my kits. Recently, I started drawing and I enjoyed it so most of my new creations include some hand drawn elements. I also want to explore out of the box sometimes and play a little shabby-ish.

15. Where do you get your inspiration/motivation? I get my inspirations from almost everything around me, DH included. He give names to some of my palettes and I work on them. I also love to use the colors that my kids combine on their coloring books. And very recently, I started playing with colors! I love using realistic elements in my kits with a touch of hand drawn ellies and doodles from time to time. I love creating my papers too! I sometimes start a kit with just papers and get more inspiration after previewing them .

16. Which of your products in the ScrapMatters store showcases your style the most? I designed “The Magic Is Here” with my own style so that is basically me. :)

17. What is your favorite color scheme to design with? I love green, pink, teal, orange and brown.

18. Favorite kit you’ve designed for ScrapMatters? The Magic Is Here

Last but certainly not least, I have the pleasure of letting you get to know Studio Flergs.

1. Your screen name? Your real name? Flergs. Megan or Megs.

2. What is your main job/career? Hairdresser part time. Mainly Mum & Digi Designer.

3. Are you married/children/pets? Married for 13 years this year. Have 2 loud dogs.

4. Where is home for you? I live in a small country town in Victoria Australia.

5. What are your 3 favorite foods? Hard to narrow down to three. So Subway, Kettle Chips (Golden Honey Chicken flavour), Donuts.

6. PC or Mac? What program do you use? Definitely a PC, I’m not a MAC sucker. I use CS5 for everything and sometimes artrage as well.

7. What is the most challenging part of designing for you? Time. I have a lot of deadlines to meet and little time to meet them. I don’t work during the day while my kids are at home, so I only get time from their bedtime (7.30pm) till I go to bed. Sometimes I get time during the day if they are with my Mum or at kinder/school.

8. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking? I’d love to learn how to play the drums like Tommy Lee

9. What are your favorite movies/TV shows? WOW ok how much space do I have? I am a MAJOR TV & Movie addict. IMDB is my fave iPhone app even to look up trivia lol. Anything Vampire related, True Blood, Twilight, Vampire Diaries… fave show EVER is Supernatural. I love Project Runway, ANTM, HIMYM, Big Bang, Glee, Rush, Medium, Modern Family…. crikey I can’t list them all. Love Rocky Horror, Tootsie, Grease, Step Brothers… lots of weird humour that I love to quote.

10. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where? Usually a nice quiet house because the kids are in bed. I have my iPod on very loud and yend to listen to one song on repeat when I am in the ‘zone’ and I try to not eat anything. I have a work PC that is only for designing, no yahoo or any distractions. Then a laptop for during the day to check email & facebook lol.

11. If you only had 2 elements to use in a kit, what would they be? Paper & a flower I guess

12. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…? Ummm very shy, I get anxiety trying to talk to new people and that is the same in the digi world too. Why I never ask people to collab with me lol, fear of rejection & all that.

13. When did you start designing? What is your favorite product that you’ve designed? I started in 2007 doing bad blog freebies. I always think the latest kit is my fave, so I don’t really have a favourite but I like boy kits best.

14. How would you describe your design style? No idea! I just do what I do lol. I try and stay true to paper scrapping I guess. Not fantasy at all. I try to make everything as real as possible and look like it could be for traditional paper scrapping.

15. Where do you get your inspiration/motivation? Definitely from fabrics & clothes more than anything. A piece of fabric can give me colour ideas & start a whole kit. And my kids clothes also are a big source of inspiration. Most of my kits I can remember exactly what inspired it.

16. Which of your products in the ScrapMatters store showcases your style the most? You’ll have to wait until I have more in store! lol

17. What is your favorite color scheme to design with? I love contrasting colours, not all variations of the one colour. Love orange, brown & teal the best. Oh and cream is usually in every kit.

18. Favorite kit you’ve designed for ScrapMatters? A collab I am currently working on with Amber is looking like a fave.

Thanks so much Mye and Megan for letting us get to know you both a little better! Be sure to stop by both Mye’s store and Flerg’s store and check out the amazing goodies they have available this month here at ScrapMatters!!!

November 13 Saturday Special

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

I don’t know if you have noticed, but there have been some very cute signatures showing up on the boards the last couple months. It got me to thinking about my scrapbook pages and how fun it is to add all those fun embellishments to the title to jazz them up a bit. Your challenge is to jazz up the title on your page. You can do this by adding embellishments to the letters, creating a scene, weaving string or ribbons through the letters, layering paper strips underneath, adding scatters or splats, etc. I would like you to add at least three different items (besides the alphas and/or fonts) to your title to kick it up a notch.

Here is my page using  Wonderful Tonight by Jady Day Studios and Julie Billingsley and In Spring by geniaBeana.

Here is what our great creative team has come up with for their fun titles.

Melissa used All Fall Down and the All Fall Down Add-On from Erica Zane.

Liz used Jady Day Studios Beautiful kit, add-on alpha and embossed papers.

Jenn used Wonderful Tonight by Jady Day Studio and Julie Billingsley.

Becca used Chelle’s Creations Happy kit, Happy Borders and Frames, and askew templates.

Here are the nitty gritty details:

* Post your layouts to the Saturday Special gallery, then link us up here so we can leave you lots of love

* Your layout must be unique to this challenge – no double dipping.

* You have until November 30th to complete the challenge.

* You will earn one point by participating in this challenge. You can receive an additional point for using new Scrap Matters products; please make a note of new products in your post.

* At the end of November, I will randomly select one layout to receive an extra point as the winner of this challenge!

* Remember, you don’t have to use ScrapMatters products for our challenges, but we sure do love it when you do!

Grand Theft Layout – 11/10: beckag99

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Hey scrappers – I just love hosting the GTL challenges here at ScrapMatters.. I always find SO much incredible inspiration in the gallery, and why not take advantage of that in creating and improving our own pages, right?

This week, your challenge is to browse the gallery of beckag99 and find a page you truly love, and use the inspiration from it to create something wonderful for you and your family.   {I know, I know, we just lifted her back in September, but clearly I wasn’t paying attention, and since she has so many great pages, I’m sure you can find another one to inspire you… }  Remember, lifts aren’t exact copies, so even if it’s her awesome color choices or incredible use of space that inspires you, go with it, make it your own and do something great!

————————————-

I chose this yummy page to lift.. I loved the split composition, and that tall and skinny photois so striking compositionally, I just knew I had to give it a try..

My take on it…

And now here are some incredible inspiration pages from the SM CT.. aren’t they THE BEST around?!?!

Sara {misfitinmn} was inspired by this one..

and totally made it her own…

Kendall {kendallt} chose this beauty..

that inspired her to create this…

Andrea {andrea4376} took this one..

and came up with…

Jenn {jennv} choose this one..

and put her own spin on it..

Jenn {jennamy82} took this..

and created this little beauty…

Once you’ve completed your LO, upload it to the Grand Theft Layout Gallery, and be sure to link us up in the forum so we can leave you LOTS of love.. :D

A few reminders:

* You will receive one point for your entry
* You will receive one extra point for using a NEW product within the first week of its release – PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THIS IN YOUR POST
* One lucky winner will also receive an additional point at the end of the challenge
* You have until the end of  November to complete your layout
* No double dipping – please keep your layouts unique to each challenge
* HAVE FUN!

And don’t forget to leave Becka some love as you’re browsing – I’m sure she’ll really appreciate it!

Loribear created this awesome page using the brand new ScrapMatters Mega Collab kit Many Thanks

Check out this layout by dznyscrapper (Amanda) using The DSD Grab Bag by GeniaBeana

Kendall created this royally beautiful page using the brand new Wonderful Tonight collab by Jady Day and Julie Billingsley

This next one by Annisa is really neat. I like how she clustered the smaller photo closer. Great way to make the template work for her page! She used Denim Days by Creations by Rachel and the Happy To Be Alpha Pack by Scrapmuss Designs.

And one more from Fran using Boo Bash by WM Squared.

Oh the goodies available to use for your page are so yummy beautiful, especially with all the awesome Digital Scrapbook Day releases… I can’t wait to see what you have created! So won’t you come play along?

Sunday Spotlight – jenn7 (Jennifer Labre)

Monday, November 8th, 2010

Good Monday afternoon. I’m super excited to be stopping in a day late to bring you the Sunday Spotlight. Let’s say it’s due to a little DSD weekend hangover, ok? I don’t know about you, but ScrapMatters sure did have a LOT of fun activities going on this weekend! Alright, back to your regularly scheduled program. I’m honored to let you learn a little more about one of our awesome designers, Jennifer Labre. So, let’s jump right in!

1. Your screen name? Your real name?
My name is Jennifer Labre and I’m known online as jenn7.

2. What is your main job/career?
I worked in marketing and graphic design for 15 years before becoming a SAHM with my youngest daughter, Jenna, who was born in December 2008. Now I’m happily a digital designer.

3. Are you married/children/pets?
I am married to Jeff and have two daughters, Jordan (9) and Jenna (almost 2). We don’t have any pets at this time, Jenna would probably terrorize them!

4. Where is home for you?
We live in Wisconsin. (brrrrr) I’d love to live somewhere warmer, but that just isn’t possible right now.

5. What are your 3 favorite foods?
Salsa, Pizza, Turtle Cheesecake

6. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Cherry Cheesecake or Caramel Cashew

7. Snacks…Salty or Sweet?
Salty – love chips & salsa!

8. Beverage of choice?
Water or Diet Dr. Pepper

9. What’s your least favorite food?
Peas. I can’t even stand the smell.

10. PC or Mac? PC, though have thought about making the switch to Mac at some point.

11. How long have you been digi-scrapping? How did you get started?
I was a paper scrapper long before I ever digi scrapped. I started digi scrapping in September 2005 and haven’t touched my paper stuff since – though I still have most of it! It just seemed the natural progression for me since I was already on the computer so much doing graphic design anyway. Love that there is no mess!

12. What was your 1st LO about? I think I’ve long since deleted my first layouts!!!

13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)?
I love taking photos and I’m still learning to use my camera (I’ve been saying that for about 3-4 years now!) I also love watching reality TV and movies, reading, and dabbling with cooking a bit.

14. What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you?
Finding the time to do it. Since I started designing it has taken a backseat for me and I really need to find more of a balance because I am a huge believer in scrapbooking.

15. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking?
Probably something to do with cooking. I’d love to take a class. I’d also love to learn to ice skate. ;)

16. What are your favorite movies/TV shows?
My husband and I are huge reality TV and Food Network junkies. So right now we’re watching The Apprentice, Survivor, Amazing Race, The Next Iron Chef oh and I am not ashamed to admit I love the Real Housewives series. It’s my dirty little secret. ;) We were also huge Lost fans and miss that show!

17. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where?
I design and scrap on my laptop which is on a TV table right next to my spot on the couch. So I’m always on the computer with my family around me and the TV on.

18. If you only had 2 elements to use on a LO, what would they be?
Flowers and anything metal.

19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…?
I actually dabbled in learning and teaching myself to design for several years before I actually started selling my designs or even shared my work with anyone.

20. When did you start designing? What is your favorite product that you’ve designed?
I opened my shop at The Digichick in April of this year and then at ScrapMatters on October 1st. But as I said, I’ve tried my hand at designing for several years before that. I just didn’t share it with anyone. My favorite product is usually the latest one I’ve designed. I just finished a Christmas kit that I am totally thrilled about. It will hit SM in early December!

21. How would you describe your design style?
Sophisticated with a traditional feel. I like things to look as real as possible. Since I was a paper scrapper, I still love the look of real elements and lots of texture.

22. Where do you get your inspiration/motivation?
Everywhere! But probably the best place is just a great color palette. That can really dictate an entire kit to me. My girls also provide a lot of inspiration. Especially when I have photos I need to scrap and can’t find a kit elsewhere to use!

23. Which of your kits showcases your style the most?
That’s a tough one. I’m still mixing up my techniques and styles and spreading my wings a bit so it’s hard to pinpoint just one!

24. What is your favorite color scheme to design with?
Oh gosh, I love a great color scheme. Lately I’ve loved working with reds and oranges.

25. Favorite kit you’ve designed?
My favorite kit at SM is probably Sweet On You.

I love the fun, bright colors and I had so much fun creating these elements! It’s a kit I wanted to do for a long time and I love how it came together.

Thanks so much for letting us get to know you Jennifer! Be sure to check out Jennifer’s full shop at ScrapMatters here and take advantage of the fantastic 40% DSD sale that continues a few more days!
