Sunday Spotlight – CT Member- ktanker!

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011
1. Your screen name? Your real name? My screen name is ktanker and my real name is Kerrie (whoa, bet you didn’t expect that, lol). My initials are K-A-T so my boyfriend turned husband gave me the nickname shortly after we met. It stuck.

2. What is your main job/career? Oh lordy. That’s a sore subject. ha ha. I am currently an unemployed bum or a scrap bum as I like to call it.. Sadly, I enjoy it. IRL, I have been a few different things, a dental assistant turned veterinary assistant/dog rescuer. Eventually I took a job working as an administrative assistant at the local University which is where I fit well for a “job” but sadly budget cuts and woes led me here. I’m thinking of going to school to study photography and graphic design. It’s really my passion, but I do have to get a new IRL type job to make that dream happen. I have a couple interviews coming up so say a prayer for me or send good thoughts my way… I miss that extra income!! My husband won’t let me spend nearly as much on scrap stuff, ha ha!

3. Are you married/children/pets? Yup, Yup and Yup. My husband and I met in 1995 and moved in together 3 months later. We finally were married in December of 2006. So we’ve been together 15 years now, married for 4 years. We had one son, Christopher, who would be 5 years old this September but he passed away at birth from prematurity. Our time with him changed us for the better so there are no regrets even though we wish he could be here. We have a houseful of pets. 4 cocker spaniels and 5 cats. I ran a breed specific rescue for cocker spaniels for 6 years. Our 5th dog, Azure, an Akita/Blue Heeler mix, passed away in September last year. She was our first dog we ever helped rescue and continues to be our guardian even though now it’s in spirit.

4. Where is home for you? We live in Arkansas… in the Northwest Corner near the Oklahoma and Missouri border. Fayetteville, Arkansas, home of the Razorbacks and the University of Arkansas. We really like it here for now but you will see me sometime living somewhere cold and somewhere near the beach, and hopefully get to spend some time living in Italy and Australia.

5. What are your 3 favorite foods? Mac and Cheese (Memaw’s kind), Mashed Potatoes, and chocolate…

6. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? I love chocolate ice cream or vanilla with milk chocolate hard shell over it. The bad news is I am allergic to dairy products.

7. Snacks…Salty or Sweet? Both!! I love Kettle Corn for that reason!

8. Beverage of choice? Dr. Pepper!!, Silk Chocolate Soy Milk and MARGARITAS!!

9. What’s your least favorite food? Pickles, they stink! No literally, they stink… LOL

10. PC or Mac? What program do you use? PC… but I have MAC envy. Don’t buy Gateway and I’ll leave it at that. LOL.

11. How long have you been digi-scrapping? I started digi scrapping in February of 2007. How did you get started? I blame Kim (kimbytx) and JenLin (Jenn Lindsey Designs). We were on a forum board with a few others making siggies for other people. Jenn originally encouraged me to try my hand at siggie making. I really enjoyed that type of work so when Kim told me she had started scrapbooking, I gave it a shot. I fell in love with the hobby instantly. (Thanks Kim and Jenn!)

12. What was your 1st LO about? My very first layout was just a simple layout about my husband and I. We’d been married a few months prior so I made a layout with one of my favorite wedding pictures and titled it “Soulmates”.

13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)? There are other hobbies? I enjoy playing Sims 3, reading, and spending time with my niece. I also love to watch tv and movies. A lot of time, I just play DVDs throughout the day even if I don’t actually sit and watch them.

14. What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you? Photos, for sure. I feel like my husband and I lead a pretty basic life. We have our dogs and cats, we spend time on the college campus, we attend all the home baseball and football games (Go Hogs) and that’s about it. We live about an hour from all our family so we see them just once a month (give or take) and I don’t see my niece nearly often enough. So my pictures get repetitive and boring. Sometimes I scrap the same pictures in a different way several times.

15. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking? Photography, well, I guess that’s kind of related. I also want to play the guitar and learn to cook better.

16. What are your favorite movies/TV shows? I am currently watching King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond and Mike and Molly. I love Grey’s Anatomy, Off The Map, Hawaii [Hotties] 5-0, The Amazing Race. Most people know I am a huge Harry Potter fan, I love the Twilight Saga, and I really enjoyed seeing Red Riding Hood at the movies recently. I also love all things Disney and Tangled is my new favorite, but Lilo and Stitch is a close 2nd. I (don’t laugh) really enjoy watching Curious George cartoons on PBS. I grew up reading those books. I also love old style Disney cartoons, I blame my dad for that and Toonheads Christmas cartoons that I used to watch every Christmas morning for hours upon hours.

17. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where? I scrap on my laptop with a mouse. So you’ll find me just about anywhere. When my husband lets me, I’ll scrap in bed when I can’t sleep. I do my best pages in the middle of the night. Mostly, you’ll find me in the recliner. It’s my comfy spot. I usually have the tv on with King of Queens, Raymond, or a movie depending on my mood. I always have a Dr. Pepper and am known to eat dinner in front of a scrap screen but I’m trying to break that habit so I don’t get greasy finger marks on my laptop.

18. If you only had 2 elements to use on a LO, what would they be? A flower and a metal element.

19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…? I don’t hide much about myself, but I don’t think a lot of people know that I am a super sensitive person, I get my feelings hurt really easily over the dumbest things sometimes. I try not to complain too much though, however, my husband might disagree with that comment.

20. Can you tell us a little about your scrappin’ style? I love white space layouts. Sometimes I like a lot of clustering (that’s a newer thing for me… thanks to Melissa).

21. Favorite LOs that you have done?

Disney in the Rain shows my more recent style of clustering until the cows come home. It also represents much of our first trip to Disney World in May 2009 (aka lots of rain) and really gives me a good, happy feeling when I see it.

With The Stars is a simple yet powerful layout and reflects my favorite layout style of white space combined with simplicity while sending a powerful message.

Our Wedding Vows is a layout I did to remember what my husband and I said for vows on our wedding day. We somehow lost the piece of paper that had the original vows on them so when I found these vows online, I knew they were close if not exact and I’d better scrap them before I lost them too. It’s another example of simple, plus powerful message, with a bit of clustering. All is well fitted into my scrap style.

Our Story in Words is my top favorite layout ever. I really went outside the box on this one and pulled in everything I could think of at the time to represent the story of my husband and I. After close to 16 years together (4 married), we have quite a story to tell.

Thanks Kat for letting us get to know more about you!!

20. How would you describe your design style? I have no idea. I think it is still evolving. I have yet to really feel my niche.

21. Where do you get your inspiration/motivation? I’m always looking for new ideas. I look around a lot when shopping and I browse through magazines. A walk through the library is almost always inspiring.

22. What is your favorite color scheme to design with? I tend to shy away from pinks. While it is my favorite color, it just doesn’t look right on my boys. :)
