Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Look What’s New at ScrapMatters.com 6/1//2011!!

Hello! Can you believe it’s June already? My husband always says that as soon as June hits, Christmas is right around the corner. I know some of you are shopping for the holidays already.
This month’s gorgeous palette was designed by Wendy of WM[squared]. She has such a fantastic eye for color, and our designers have taken her palette and run with it. There were several MUST HAVE pieces to this month’s Mix-a-kit collection, but I will let you see them for yourself.
Don’t forget, these fantastic Mix-a-Kit pieces are on sale 20% off through June 7th.

Sunday Spotlight – Melissa (ShortCake)!

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

It is my pleasure to introduce you to one of the new ScrapMatters Girls… take a moment to get to know “ShortCake”!

1. Your screen name? ShortCake Your real name? Melissa

2. What is your main job/career? Currently I’m an administrative assistant to three Vice President’s for a mall developer.  Last year I finished my degree and hoping to put it to use one day.

3. Are you married/children/pets? I’m a single mom of three.  I have two boys, Jimmy (14), Johnathan (7) and Sierra (11).  We have two cats, named Fiona and Hobbs.  Two weeks ago we adopted Macey from PetSmart adoption day and she is a wonderful dog.  I told my children no more pets, but we fell in love when we saw Macey.

4. Where is home for you? Good ol’ Indiana, born and raised.  We live in Indianapolis.  I complain about the winters every year, hate the cold.  One day I would love to move somewhere warmer.

5. What are your 3 favorite foods? I admit, I love mac & cheese (especially homemade).  Potato soup is another favorite food, I could eat it every week.  Can pickles count as a food?  I love pickles.  LOL

6. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Cookies and Cream is a favorite, but really, any ice cream will do.  But if you take me to Maggie Moo’s, I love their Cake Batter ice cream.

7. Snacks…Salty or Sweet? Umm, both.  I would say sweets first, and a little something salty later.

8. Beverage of choice? Mountain Dew or sweet tea.

9. What’s your least favorite food? Liver and onions.  YUCK!  I was made to eat that as a kid and would never do that to my kids.

10. PC or Mac? What program do you use?  I’m a PC girl, love my HP.  I have Windows Vista and very happy with it.

11. How long have you been digi-scrapping? Hmm, I think I’ve been digi-scrapping for about four years now. How did you get started?  Several years ago there were some groups that made the signature tags and I’m sure those groups are still around, but I saw people using scrap kits to make them.  I stumbled onto a scrap group, and was hooked.  I have always loved taking pictures and what better way to preserve those memories than scrapping?

12. What was your 1st LO about? My first layout was my youngest on a beach.  I honestly don’t know who created the kit, it was most likely a freebie at the time.  You know how it is when you first scrap, you collect all those goodies you see for free, grabbing them and thinking you’ll use them.  Then later on, you clean your EHD.

13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)? Yes, there is one other hobby…..SHOCK!  Seriously I love to read.  I try to read every day when I get time.  A lot of times I’ll read on my lunch at work or before bed at night.  Recently I treated myself to a Kindle and love having books on hand without going to the bookstore.

14. What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you? Most likely clustering, though I feel I’m getting better at it.  I’m afraid to put too much together and that it will look overwhelming.  But I have seen some beautiful clustering in the scrap world and I’m determined to get better at it.  Another thing would be shadowing.  As they say, practice makes perfect.

15. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking? Photography.  I would love to take some classes but have so much going on in real life…..one day though.

16. What are your favorite movies/TV shows? Some favorite movies are Pride & Prejudice, Sweet Home Alabama, The Proposal.  I can pretty much watch anything, except for dumb movies that are supposed to be funny, but they really aren’t.  I enjoy watching Criminal Minds, The Closer, Hawaii Five-O (Alex O’Loughlin….hot), Bones, The Vampire Diaries….just to name a few.  I have to DVR my shows because the Cartoon Network or Disney seems to be on most of the time.

17. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where? My computer is set up in the living room.  Generally the TV is on, well, the kids are watching and playing, and I’m in my own little world scrapping.  Don’t generally snack when I scrap but will have Mountain Dew or if it’s evening or late at night, a glass of milk.

18. If you only had 2 elements to use on a LO, what would they be? Hmm, flowers and stitching.  Flowers can really help fill out a page and I love stitches.

19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…? Well, I think I’m generally quiet and don’t think many know me well even though I’ve been at ScrapMatters for few years now.  How about a silly fact.  When I was a child, I showed pigs in 4H for a family friend.  I loved it.  Pigs are so cute.

20. Can you tell us a little about your scrappin’ style? I don’t think I have one, or if I do, it’s simple.  I want to start stepping out of the box and get more creative.  I just need to spend more time on a layout and not feel rushed, which I do often.

21. Favorite LOs that you have done?
I recently did this layout of my children.  The picture was taken this Easter and I rarely get a good shot of them all together.

These layouts, I used a kit that was out of my element, but I enjoyed working with the kit.

22. How long have you been a member at ScrapMatters? I cheated and looked at my profile.  I joined August 9, 2008.

23. Do you have any suggestions for kits you’d like to see in the SM store? The store has so many beautiful kits.  I like kits that are kid friendly or for family layouts.  Boy kits don’t seem to be as common as girl kits.  Most kits can be easily used for girls as most contain flowers.  Thought I have seen beautiful layouts of boys with flowers on them.

24. What is your favorite part of being a member of the Scraps Matter Girls? The girls on the team.  Everyone is so friendly, works well together and communicates.

Thanks Melissa!  It is so fun to learn more about one of our new SM Girls!!  Check out her full gallery here!

It’s in the Cards 5/26/2011

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

I am really excited to host this months last hybrid challenge. It is my very first template and I hope you like it.

I am giving you two download links. One will be for a 5×7 inch template and the second one for the international A6 format that I made my sample with.

Here’s the template:

Download 5×7 template from 4shared

Download A6 template from 4 shared

I made my card using My History, My History – Extras, and My History – Bonus Alpha from WMsquared. My dad is a big fan of old cars, so I thought this might be perfect.

Our wonderful CT ladies have been really busy, so I have loads of wonderful inspiration to show you.

Sarah (sporte91) made this gorgeous card using  A Little Sunset by Jeanine DeOre.

Isn’t this flower just fabulous?

Sylvia (SylviaB) used the May Mix a Kit sets ‘Shabby Elegance Alpha’ by Whimpy Chompers Design and ‘Silver Lining ~ The Papers’ by Jeannine DeOre for her lovely card. That patterned paper is so beautiful and when I grow up I want my bows to look like hers.

Ami (steami) wanted to get a head start on her christmas post and made this totally cute card. LOVE that snowman and her idea of getting started early. Maybe my cards would actually get sent out if I had them done in  time. ;)

She used Doodle Me Christmas by Erica Zane.

I love the folded flower and fun elements in Tamara’s (tsmspt) card. She used What’s Cooking? from Erica Zane

Tracy’s (sunshinetk) card is pure elegance, so beautiful. I love the colors and patterns she used and that big layered flower. She used Timeless Elegance by KimB.

LuAnn (wildblueeyez) used Haynay Designs’ Into Spring kit for her totally cute card. The sweet sentiment in that whimsical font is just perfect with that fun little bug with its shimmering wings.

Amanda (Abhall76) used Bug Catcher by Chelle’s Creations for her cute card. I love that big glittery firefly – perfect for the sentiment.

Just look at the fun scene quietangelsb created  and the fun sentiment. I am a sucker for blue and all things maritime. I love to go sailing, but I get awfully seasick pretty often – I guess you could call me slightly masochistic. *lol*

She used Harbor Bay and SOS- Harbor Bay Add -on by Dream Big Designs as well as Stampy Alpha v1 by Geniabeana Designs.

And last, but absolutely not least, Cathy (scrappycath) made this awesome pick-me-up card. Just look at that ribbon flower! And I love how she used Oh Snap and the coordinating Wordart from WM Squared Designs for her sentiment.

Wow, that was a long post, and I hope you’re feeling inspired enough to join us here in the forum. I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with using  my template!

And here’s the fine print:

-You will receive one point for posting a photo of your completed card in this thread and in the It’s in the Cards gallery. You can receive an additional point for using new Scrap Matters products; please make a note of new products in your post. -You have until the end of May to complete this challenge for May’s MOS points or wait to post in June for June’s MOS points!

-Remember no double dipping…your photo and/or card must be unique to this challenge.

-You don’t have to use ScrapMatters products, but we love it when you do!

Grand Theft Layout – 5/25/2011 – iScrap

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Welcome to another addition of Grand Theft Layout! I was browsing the hybrid gallery this week because I love hybrid though I can’t do that myself. While most of the artists who do hybrid don’t seem to do “plain” digital I noticed one that does both, and I should add, she does both great! So my pick for this week, and for you to scraplift is iScrap. Go on and check her gallery HERE, I’m sure you’ll be inspired as much as I am!

And without further ado, this is my own pick:
