Sunday Spotlight – Lina (LDrag Designs)

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

This week you are in for a real treat!  We were able to catch up with Lina of LDrag Designs to learn a little more about her and her designing style!!

1. Your screen name? Your real name?
My screen name is ldrag2004 and my real name is Lina
Dragani and that is where my design name comes from (LDrag Designs)!
2. What is your main job/career?
I am an English teacher for the public domain schools!  A job that is quite difficult as you don’t know where they will assign you to go every year!
3. Are you married/children/pets?
I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 kids aged 2 and 5,5! we don’t have pets as we don’t have a garden in our house although my dd would really love to have one! But it is quite difficult!
4. Where is home for you?
As I told you before my job requires me to leave my town where my family is and I have to go to work somewhere else! Last year for example I had to go and work on an island 6 hours drive away from home!.
So Home is where is my family! And how important it is for all to be together under one roof!
5. What are your 3 favorite foods?
hm I love any type of pasta, pizza and greek souvlaki.
6. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
chocolate
7. Snacks…Salty or Sweet?
Both lol!!! I can eat them both one after the other! How crazy can this be!! Hubby is digusted when he sees me eating Nutella then chips and then again Nutella.
8. Beverage of choice?
I don’t drink beverages as I love only fresh orange and banana juice. I never drink soft drinks!!!
9. What’s your least favorite food?
chickpeas ! I hate them!! I never eat them!!!
10. PC or Mac? What program do you use?
I have a PC and I use photoshop CS2 for designing and scraping!!!!
11. How long have you been digi-scrapping? How did you get started?
I started digiscrapping in April 2008. Now how did I start! It’s a big story lol cause in Greece if you ask someone what is digiscrapping they will way “What?”. It’s something almost no one knows here! So I love photography and I wanted to do more things with my dd’s photo albums! I found some ideas of making them as in paper scrapbooking but it was really difficult to find tools to work here as they are very rare and difficult to find! So I started looking on the net and I found by accident digital scrapbooking! I fell in love with it and I started trying to learn how to do it! I haven’t stopped since then except the few months while I was pregnant to my son that I had to stop as I had a real difficult pregnancy!!!
12. What was your 1st LO about? (Pics and links will be needed for the blog post)
That is a real difficult lol as those pics don’t exist anymore as the site doesn’t exist anymore!  But I can give you the page! I am not sure if this was the first ever but it is sure one of the first!

The supplies are from Shabby Princess Promise kit ( a real oldie)
13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)?
I love all types of crafts! esp the ones that have to do with making things! Such a painting and drawing and anything that involves creativity!!!!
14. What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you?
To learn to use the programme and the techniques! I love improving myself all the time so I try to learn everything that can make me improve my scraping skills!!!
15. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking?
hm that one is tough! I would love to learn more about photography skills! Hubby helps me a lot as he is an amatuer photographer but I still need to learn a lot and many of the things he talks about lol are a little like chinese to me!
16. What are your favorite movies/TV shows?
Since it is difficult to tell you greek movies or series whilch I generally love a lot I will tell you a  few of my favourite america ones!!! I love Julia Roberts so I love Notting Hill and Still Magnolias!!! And all her movies in general! And as for TV shows I love Grey’s Anatomy and Sex and The City!
17. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where?
Ok I usualy work in my office! I always have a glass with my favourite coffee next to me and lately I tend to hear at the background all the episodes of my favourite greek series which was a real hit in 2005! Or just watch TV on my other screen which is next to me!! And I usually do it during naptime or at night as the house is quite quiet and I can concentrate on my work!
18. If you only had 2 elements to use on a LO, what would they be?
a ribbon and a flower
19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…?
My life is pretty much know what I am not sure whether people knoe is that I am greek! I live in Greece and I love the beauty of my country!!!
20. When did you start designing? What is your favorite product that you’ve designed?
I started designing in July 2008 after Andrea’s prompt!!!I became an apperentice designer then! Now avourite kit ,I guess the more recent one!!! I love them all!!
21. How would you describe your design style?
I doon’t know how you would describe my style but I tend to make many things and experimentations with my style as I love many styles by other designers! But generally I love floral lines and simple lines at the same time and lots of flowers in my kits!
22. Where do you get your inspiration/motivation?
I usually get inspiration from pics! Lately Pinterest has become my most favourite place!!! One pic can give a complete idea of what type of kit I want to make!!!
23. Which of your kits showcases you style the most?
Summer Sherbert
Cherrylicious
Snapshots of Life
24. What is your favorite color scheme to design with?
brown, lime, purple and beige
25. Favorite kit you’ve designed?
Again the I would say the most recent!! I love all my kits lol!!

Saturday Special: Create & Divide

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

Hello everyone…. This is Cyndi, and I am hosting this next edition of your Saturday Special challenge.  Today we are going to try our hand at a Double Pager… but we’re not going to stop there.  We’ll follow it up by dividing the layout and displaying it in the gallery looking it’s very best!

Let me start by walking you through how I create my double pagers.  I’m using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

For me, it’s easiest to start with one big 12×24 canvas (or template).  You can turn on the Guide to show you the middle of the full layout, and help you not place any important faces or journaling right where the pages will divide.  If you’re using a template, hopefully your template designer already had this in mind with the creation of the template.  You can turn on the Guide feature if you want to be sure, or if you are in the habit of altering templates.

To add the guide, click View > Show Rulers to make the rulers appear.  Then, with the move tool on the left side ruler, click and drag your cursor onto the page.  You should be dragging a teal Guide line into position.  You can place this guide line anywhere on the page.  It’s an invisible line that will not show up on your actual page.  Click View > Show Guides to turn the guides off and on.  Let’s place the guide in the center of our 12×24 layout.

When I’m done scrapping my page, I flatten my image (some scrappers like to keep a layered version of their layout in their files.  For me, when I’m done, I’m done.  I flatten and move on.)  After flattening my full 12×24 layout, I open two separate 12×12 new documents.  I drag my flattened 12X24 into the first of the 12×12 documents so that only the left side is showing.  (This actually makes a copy of the image so that my 12×24 is still intact.)  I merge the layers and save to my Finished Layouts folder.  Then I repeat for the right side in the second of the new 12×12 documents.  Before closing these 12x 12 documents and after I’ve save the full size image, I reduce the images to 600×600 pixels and save for web.  I also make a 700-800 pixel wide version of my full 12×24 layout and “save for web” so that I can add the image to my credits (instructions to follow) and people can see what the two pages look like together.  Now I have 2 beautiful, high resolution images to print for my albums and 2 separate, clear, web images to display in the gallery.

Oh, and remember that 12×24 image we saved for web?  I upload that to an offsite photo hosting site (I use Photobucket) so that I can display the full layout in my credits.  This is what your link should look like in your credits…{IMG}http:// url of hosted photo{/IMG}  but change { to [ and } to ].

And to makes things even better…..   Jen Davey has created a double template just for us!  If you’re a little intimidated by double pagers, this might just be the help you need.
