Hello everyone,
It’s Kayla aka keepscrappin here today with the first Saturday Special of October. I’m an admitted template junkie – just take a look at my hard drive. There’s a whole section of just templates. And even more that I want in the Template section of the ScrapMatters Store. Although I love using templates, I don’t want every layout to look the same, so my solution is to use the same templates in new ways to get more looks from them.
My favorite and easiest way to get a new look is to take my templates for a spin. Spin them left or right, flip them vertical or horizontal. The idea is to spin them to get another look.
One of the things I love about spinning templates is that I can use a template that was originally made for portrait photos for landscape photos simply by spinning the template 90 degrees.
Here’s what I mean. Let’s take the Simply Stated v.1 Template set by geniaBeana scraps for a spin.

I use PSE 7, but you should be able to spin or flip your templates with most photo editing programs.
First open your desired template and make a copy of it and close the original so you don’t MESS it up! lol
Then you will work with the copy of your template. Spinning a template is really easy just go to the menu bar and select Image | rotate | and then from the top section of that popout menu select which way you want to spin or flip it as shown in this image.

As you will notice from the screen shot the items above the line affect the whole image. The items below the line in the middle section affect only the selected layers in your layers pallet.
Here are some variations on the template named gb_simplystatedv1_2

Here’s my layout.

I spun a template 90 degrees left from Be Inspired – Kim R. – Templates set by WM [Squared] Designs

And here’s some awesome inspiration from the SM Creative Team
Jan (QuiltyMom) Used the NEW today – October Mix-a-Kit components from True Blue Studio Spooky Templates; Template #2. Spooky Templates and MAK items from Dream Big Designs: Haunted House Elements, Haunted House Papers, Haunted House Graffiti and Haunted House Alpha.

Wendy (Neverland Scraps) flipped WM[squared] Designs Fun and Funky v.1 and Jady Day Studios & Kay Miller’s A Girl’s Life kit

Opehlia (navaja) Flipped a template horizontally from True Blue Studio’s Autumn Bliss templates,
and used Jady Day Studio’s In for the Ride and Band Geek Designs’ Flag Tags.

Heidi (scrappurple) Flipped a WM[squared] temp Be Inspired Mel v.2

Tamara (tsmspt) Horizontally flipped the first template in this big pack Queen-of-scrap-2010-template-bundle

and used Dude a ScrapMatters Design Team Collab to make this awesome layout

Liz (mommy22girls) Flipped one of these:

and used Jady Day Studio and Meghan Mullens’ Explore Exhibits kit to get this cool layout.

**** The challenge for today is to SPIN or FLIP a template for your layout.
And for fun tell us if you spun, flipped, or did both to your template to make your layout and if you used a NEW RELEASE for the extra point.
psssst – Don’t worry, we won’t tell your hubby, that now that you know how to spin templates you have 4 times as many templates at your disposal. So keep collecting those templates and take em for a spin. lol
Challenge reminders:
-You will receive one point for posting in this thread & in the Saturday Special gallery. You can receive an additional point for using new Scrap Matters products; please make a note of new products in your post to get the extra point.
