April 22, 2012 Bingo Challenge

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

Hi all, Carolyn (calliclaire) to bring you today’s challenge:

Obscure Holiday Challenge – April 22 is “National Jelly Bean Day”, so use some candy on your LO.  What fun!  My kids LOVE candy (well, so do I)!  Here they are eating those fabulous ring pops that last forever and I am sure are SO not good for their teeth!  I used the awesome How Sweet It is by Amy Stoffel and Layer It Volume 2 Template Pack by Mye De Leon:

I LOVE this fun layout by Carol, using all those easter peeps on her page:

And here’s one from Chel with those delicious jelly beans:

Hope you have fun adding candy to your pages.  It does not have to include photos of candy.  You can do something like “As sweet as candy” for a title and then sprinkle candy all over your page!  Enjoy!  And don’t forget to join us in the other April challenges over here.

Happy Scrapping!
- Carolyn (calliclaire)

March 24, 2012 – Song Lyric Challenge

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

HollyinPA bringing you the final Bingo  Challenge for March…how is your Bingo Card coming along?!?!  I am hoping to make up some time in the next week!  Today’s challenge is fairly easy….pick ANY lyric from a song and use it on a layout.  You can pick a few words, a line or a whole verse, even the entire song!  It is up to you!  I chose to use a portion of the Twisted Sister song “I Wanna Rock” for my layout.  I didn’t know where I heard it from…knew it was a song & these photos of my then 10 month old daughter trying to play Rock Band just screamed those words to me!  Here is Alexa playing the drums.  I used LDrag Designs and Down This Road Designs’ collab  kit “My Rock Star”, which also screams “I Wanna Rock” to me :)   Have fun and don’t forget to leave love for some other layouts.  Thanks for playing!

HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY SCRAPMATTERS!  chooo choooooooo!

The Saturday Special 7/16/2011: bending rectangular ellies to circles

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

Hi everyone and welcome to another “issue” of the Saturday Special. The thing I like most about this challenges is that I often find some tutorials and tips that are new to me and teach me more tricks for learning scrapbook deeper.
This Saturday I also have a small tutorial for you. Some time ago I bended a lace into a circle for a CT layout and some CT member asked me how I did it. So I thought maybe it will be useful to someone out there, too, to see how to do it!

Let’s start with our small tutorial! First pick the lace, ribbon or element you want to bend and drag it into your empty page.

Now you should increase its height a little… well, you will learn it from experience, anyway, I increased my height to 160%.

Now in the top bar look for the Filter Menu –> Distort –> Polar Coordinates

It will open up another little window: Rectangular to Polar (yes, if you have a round object, for example a frame, you can convert it to a straight line with the other option!).

And voilà:

Your nice lace turned into a super cute circle to be used as a frame or a different element of your taste.

Your chance for this Saturday Special challenge is to create a layout using a bended element, so simple!

I hope you enjoyed the small tut!

This is how I used my new circle lace:

And here’s more inspirations from our wonderful CT ladies!
Ophelia (navaja77) picked a scallop and used the technique in GIMP. It created a flower type element:

Melissa (prettypeaches) used the technique on the stitches:

Kayla (keepscrappin) turned a white ribbon into a circle:

Fran (Fran98765) took a straight scallop clip of one of the papers and turned it into a circle for the scallop mat under the journal mat:

Amanda (dznyscrapper) turned a ribbon into a circle:

Grand Theft Layout – 07/06/11 – scrappyt

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Hi everyone and welcome to a new Grand Theft Layout Challenge! While having a look at past ladies being “stolen” their galleries  I noticed that our own Trista aka scrappyt has never been lifted! That’s insane to me because Trista has always been a major inspiration for me, esp. when I was learning how to cluster!
So your challenge this week is to browse Trista’s gallery, find a layout you like and come back here with both the page you picked and the page you scrapped finding inspiration in Trista’s one.

I picked Different Drum:

and turned it into:

Credits: Yesterday Today Tomorrow by Plum Dumpling Designs

And more inspirations from our talented CT members!

Manda lifted Pig Race:

and came up with this yummy page:

Credits: Summer Refreshment Solid Papers by Down This Road Designs, Messy Love [patterns] by LDrag Designs, Messy Love [ellies] by LDrag Designs

Fiona (canadianmommy) choose Splash Into Summer

and created this delicious layout:

Amy (anrobe) picked She Tumbles

and came up with this cute pet page:

Cami’s choice was Special Delivery

and she delivered this beauty:

The Hybrid Corner: Coasters – 4/21/11

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Hey all!  Jewelle {jubeejewels} here with the Hybrid Corner!

A few years {yes I said years} ago I picked up some chipboard coasters at my local craft store.  I was tired of scrubbing water rings off of my coffee table on a daily basis and thought these would solve the problem.  I thought that I would decorate the coasters with scrap paper so I wouldn’t have to look at the very “blah” color of the chipboard.  The coasters got thrown into my to do pile of crafts and have sat there ever since.  I am now finally getting around to making them pretty and I have no idea why it took me so long.  It was a super easy project!  With that I want to show  you how easy it would be for you to make a set for your own home!  First let’s take a look at my coasters:

From my digi stash I used Girlfriends by wm[squared] Designs and Eva Kipler Designs.  I also used Girlfriends – Word Art Bits by wm[squared] Designs.

Let’s get started on how I made my coasters.

SUPPLIES

  • Printed mini scrapbook pages
  • Coasters
  • Mod podge
  • Foam brush
  • Paper trimmer
  • Craft knife
  • Scissors
  • Spray sealant
  • Ink Pad {optional}
  • Emory Board {optional}
  • Black pen {not pictured}
  • Felt {not pictured}

Step 1 – In Photoshop or other equivalent program create mini scrapbook pages that are the size of your coasters.  When finished my four pages fit on a 8.5 x 11 canvas with each mini scrapbook page being 4 in x 4 in.

Step 2 – Print.  Cut out mini scrapbook pages using a paper cutter.

Step 3 – Using mod podge and foam brush glue mini scrapbook page to a coaster.

Step 4 – Trim any excess paper using craft knife or scissors.  Use a Emory board to file down and smooth the edges  of the paper if needed.

Step 5 – Using the ink pad drag it across the edges of your coaster.  Not only does this add a bit of distressing on the mini scrapbook pages, but it also hides the chipboard color.  In the picture you can see that I have used a dark brown ink to cover part of the chipboard.  This step is optional but I think it gives the whole project a nice finished look.

Step 7 – Using a black pen trace the shape of your coasters onto felt.  Cut shapes from felt.

Step 8 – Apply a thick coat of mod podge to the back of your coasters.  Carefully line up the felt on the back.  Using scissors trim of any excess felt.

Step 9 — Use a spray sealant to seal the whole project.

Step 10 — Enjoy your finished project!

I would love know what you think of my project!  If this inspires you to create your coasters be sure and link me up in the comments so I can see what you come up with!  If you need any questions answered concerning this project be sure and ask.
