Word Up! Cutout Titles

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Photobucket

Hey everyone! Li here with another Word Up Challenge! I’ve been wanting to try cutting my title out of a piece of paper or even my picture, and I thought the Word Up challenge would be the perfect opportunity! Want to try it with me?

Here’s how I did it in Photoshop Elements (It’s pretty simple, so I’m sure it will work in other programs, too.):

1. Type out your title and position it where you want it to be on your layout (on top of the paper or picture you want to cut it from). I am going to cut the word “wish” out of the blue paper.
1

2. Simplify the layer by right-clicking on it in the layers pallet and then clicking on “Simplify Layer” (in your version of photoshop, it might be Layer>Rasterize>Type). You won’t be able to change the font after this step, so make sure it’s the way you want it!
2

3. Select the letters of your title. I used the magic wand and held down shift as I clicked on each letter.
3

4. Select the layer that you are cutting your title from (the paper or picture). Then, press delete. Make sure you have the correct layer selected or it won’t work right! You can now delete the text layer or make it invisible.

And that’s it! Be sure to add a drop shadow to make it really stand out.

Here’s my completed page using Jennifer Barrette’s Dandelion Wishes:

-You have until the end of March to complete your layout.

WORD UP! January 14th

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Hi everyone!!  Christy here with January’s first Word Up! Challenge! Smiley

For this challenge we are going to be focusing on repetition in our titles, using the same “root word”.  A root refers to the essential part of the word and is where the word derives its meaning. Your challenge is to create a layout which has a three word title (yep! ONLY three words)… and the title must have the same root word repeated three times.   You can repeat the exact same word three times, or you can change up the root word by adding prefixes, suffixes, etc.

Here’s the LO I came up with:

Glam-o-Rama and Used and Abused Papers by Britt-ish Designs

And here are some LOs from our awesome CT:

By Alamama

Create a LO, upload it to the Word Up Challenge Gallery, and link it back here in this forum and get a point.

Use a new product from the ScrapMatter’s store, get another point.

The challenge will run until the end of January…and then I will pick my favorite to get one additional point.

To get your points, you MUST post your layout in the gallery, and put BOTH your link and your image here.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!  Happy Scrapping!!! SmileySmiley

Word Up! 12/3

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Are you ready for another Word Up Challenge?  This time we’re focusing on titles. When it comes to titles, I’m usually stuck at the end of a LO, trying to fit one in! I get my page done, every element in place, and then have nowhere to place my title, let alone a cute idea for one! So for this challenge, I want you to have a title in mind before you start. Remember to save a place for it on your page.  Next, need a cute idea for your title? Why not use a different alpha for each letter?  I’ve seen some awesome LO’s with titles like this.  If you need a little direction, try keeping all the alphas within the same color family, or pull colors from your LO.  So that’s your assignment, make your own awesome LO using a different alpha for each letter.  Your title can be as long as you want, just be sure to give credit for each alpha used. Here’s some inspiration:

I used Motor Mania by Britt-ish Designs for most of my page and my alphas are as follows:

Britt-ish Designs: Motor Mania, I’m a Dreamer, Let’s Kick It Alpha & Bonus Alpha.
Designs by Tater: Worn Polka Dot Alpha
Erica Zane: Amy’s Angst Alpha & EZ Shrubberies Alpha
I also used Got-a-Date Strips by Britt-ish Designs.

From Christy (TheWerners):

Everything is by Britt-ish Designs: Papers and Embellies from The Bright Side.  Alphas: The Bright Side, Enchantment, Minnie, Razzle Dazzle, Let’s Kick it, Splatter, A Kid Again.

From littlehiccup

It’s Christmas Time in the City and My Ribbon Jar by Britt-ish Designs
Behind the Dating Glass by Haynay Designs
Alphas:
Felty White Alpha and Sunshine Everyday Alpha by Jeni Hopewell
White Vellum Alpha by Designs by Tater
Tickle Me Happy Alpha by Erica Zane
Wrinkled Paper Alpha by Digi Keepsakes by Monica

- You’ll receive 1 point for completing this challenge if you post it in the “Word Up” gallery, as well as linking it back up in this forum.
- You have until the end of December to post your layout.
- You can receive 1 bonus point for using a new release (within 1 week of release) from SM in your LO. If you use a new release, make sure to say so in your post and credits so we don’t miss your bonus point.
- And at the end of the December, I’ll be choosing my favorite entry and that scrapper will get 1 bonus point on their January tally!
- Your LO must be a NEW LO specifically created for this challenge. And you may not combine this challenge with any other SM challenge or speed scrap.

I can’t wait to see your great titles and LO’s.

Word Up! 11/19

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Hello! Linz here with a new Word Up challenge for everyone. I’m typically not a very wordy person, so I’ll get right to the details! We’ll be doing a lyric challenge this time. I think I’ve chosen a song that EVERYONE can relate to — a love song. We all have people we love, right?! Spouses, children, parents, siblings, friends…

So all you need to do is let these lyrics inspire your page in some way. You can include a verse or two on your page, if you’d like, or maybe it will just inspire your title. It’s totally up to you!

“I’ll Still Love You More” – Trisha Yearwood

Ask me how much you mean to me
And I wouldn’t even know where to start
Ask if this love runs deep in me
And you won’t find a deeper love in any heart
You could say you couldn’t live one day without me
You could say all of your thoughts are about me
You could think no other love could be as strong
But you’d be wrong, you’d be wrong

If you say that you love me
More than anybody
Than anyone’s ever been loved before
As much as you love me
Baby, I’ll still love you
Baby, I’ll still love you more
I’ll still love you more

Ask me just what I’d do for you
And I’ll tell you I would do anything
Ask if this heart beats true for you
And I’ll show you a truer heart could never be
You could say there’s not a star that you won’t bring me
You could say there’ll be no day that you won’t need me
You could think no other love could last as long
But you’d be wrong, you’d be wrong

If you say that you love me
More than anybody
Than anyone’s ever been loved before
As much as you love me
Baby, I’ll still love you
Baby, I’ll still love you more

And for ev’ry kiss
I’ll kiss you back a hundred times
And for ev’rything you do
I’ll just do more
And for all the love you give
I’ll give you so much back, you’ll see
Got so much love for you inside

If you say that you love me
More than anybody
Than anyone’s ever been loved before
No matter how much you love me
Baby, I’ll still love you
Baby, I’ll still love you more
I’ll still love you more

Here’s my example, featuring one of my favorite photos of my son. I used Woodland Fantasy by Erica Zane, Clearly Rectangular Alpha by Designs by Tater and The Chosen One, Set 1 by Sya’s Blueprints.

A few of my fellow SM CT members have created some inspiration for you as well!

First up, a hybrid card by alamama. She used Kelly’s Apple Farm by Happy Scrap Girl, Welcome Home by Erica Zane and a hanging clip from Let’s Kick It by Britt-ish Designs. The first photo is the front of the card and the second shows the inside. Can you believe this is her first hybrid?!

Littlehiccup created this layout using a worn frame overlay by Happy Scrap Girl, Welcome Home and Where the Heart Blooms by Erica Zane, Flora Brushes by Andilynn Designs and Hardware Pretty by Simply Sweet Designs.

Here is monsu’s layout, using mainly Carpe Diem by Simply Sweet Designs.

Kimbytx used Welcome Home and Where the Heart Blooms, both by Erica Zane.

Our last layout is by melanie3boys, using Peace & Quiet by Britt-ish Designs and Andilynn Designs.

You will have until 11/30 at midnight to scrap your layout, and when you complete it, you MUST post it to the Word Up Challenge Gallery AND in the forum to get credit.

Your completed layout will earn you one point in the new Matter of Scrap Challenge System.

In addition, you can earn another point by using a newly released product (you must scrap and upload your layout within the first 7 days of the product’s release – and remember, you MUST indicate that you have used a new release). At the end of the challenge, I will choose one random layout and they will win an extra point towards their total!

Remember, no double dipping…your layout must be unique to this challenge.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Word UP 10/22

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Happy Wednesday! Mary (littlehiccup) here with our second Word Up Challenge. When I found out that I would be doing a Word Up challenge, I immediately thought of my dh. Not because he talks a lot and definitely not because he always knows what to say, but because he suffers from what we like to call Foot in Mouth Disease. For those of you who are not familiar with this disease, symptoms include making comments with good intentions but end up coming out terribly wrong. You may know someone who suffers from this condition, or maybe you have this disease!

Here are some examples:

“That doesn’t make you look fat at all.”

“I like your haircut; it makes your face look round.”

and there are many more!

So your challenge today is to come up with a LO that features one of those times when either you happened to put your foot in your mouth or someone else did.

Here’s mine…

Here’s one from alamama:

And here’s another from Kim of Simply Sweet Designs

And finally, one from Jeni

You will have until 10/31 at midnight to scrap your layout, and when you complete it, you MUST post it to the Word Up Challenge Gallery AND in the forum to get credit.

Your completed layout will earn you one point in the new Matter of Scrap Challenge System.

In addition, you can earn another point by using a newly released product (you must scrap and upload your layout within the first 7 days of the products release – and remember, you MUST indicate that you used a new release). At the end of the challenge, I will choose my favorite layout and they will win an extra point towards their November points!

Remember, no double dipping…your layout must be unique to this challenge.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Word UP!

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Hey Everyone! Its Heather (Haynay) here welcoming you to the first Word Up! Challenge! Our “Words for Wednesday” blog posts have morphed into the “Word Up!” challenge.  I am not one to worry about journaling on the page, or even a title, but I do know how much words bring to a page! I wanted something a bit different since I am not a very good journalist. I have come up with something fun, something I can remember doing in Elementary school-and that I remember teaching also! I have decided on an Acrostic Poem!!! Yeah! How fun is this. Pick any theme for your LO that you want. But, I want a one to two word title. From that title, you will write a poem (or you can journal). Each line of the poem needs to start with the next letter of your title! The challenge is located here in the forum. Here is my example!

I used: Sya’s Blueprint: Revised Set 1 from October Grab bag; Andilynn Designs: Felt Flowers and Autumn Sojourn; GG Digital Designs: Felt Stitched Alpha

Now, here are a couple of examples from the great girls on SM’s CT!

Andrea used: Leave the World Behind, Fairchild splat, Used and Abused PP, date strip and clips (Britt), Dog Ate My Alpha (Erica)

Cyndi’s son wrote this acrostic. She used Sya’s Dynamic Duo template; Witchy Woman, Used & Abused paper, It’s Christmas Time in the City, Boys of Summer (Britt); Inky Brushes (Happy); Fancy Pants (Haynay); guitar is a public domain clip art which I turned into a brush.

And Christine did this girly one using Erica’s Magical Escape, Britt’s Used and Abused paper & stitches

I cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with! Now–go and create!
