Sunday Spotlight: the Designer
Sunday, August 3rd, 2008Hi Ktkadoo here…Today we’re going to meet Erica, one of our new designers here at ScrapMatters! I’m so excited that she is here. I LOVE LOVE LOVE her work.
This is Erica
(and her husband)
And this is what Erica wants us to know about herself…
What is your main job/career?
I’m a SAHM & as the saying goes, it’s the hardest job I’ll ever LOVE!
Are you married/kids/pets?
Yep, yep & nope. Married to the perfect guy for me with 2 boys (3 & 6) and a 1 year old girl. No pets at the moment…just an empty fish tank in the storage closet.
Where do you call home?
A rather small apartment in Virginia, USA
What are your three favorite foods?
Sushi, cheesecake & seafood–now I am hungry…too bad I have none of those here with me now!
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Ben & Jerry’s Pistachio Pistachio…yummmmm
Do you prefer salty or sweet snacks?
Both–I LOVE the sweets, but lately I’ve been a big muncher of cheeze-its.
What is your favorite beverage?
Water, so exciting, I know!
What is your least favorite food?
McDonald’s
PC or Mac?
PC…but I’ve always wished for a Mac
How long have you been digi-scrapping/How did you get into it?
I’ve always loved using Photoshop to edit my photos, I used to cut people out & put them on different background (& now I know that’s called extracting-LOL!) I found digi-scrapping accidentally when looking at an online craft store, I saw a digital scrapbook tab & I was curious…instant addiction! That was about a year & a half ago.
What are your hobbies besides digi-scrapping?
I used to read & paper scrapbook & knit…haven’t done any of those for a loooong time! I still love taking pics though, been addicted to that since high school.
What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you?
Finding time…and then when I DO have time, sometimes I don’t know what to do with it-LOL!
What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking ?
Be a better meal planner…I am soooo bad at dinners lately…maybe when it’s not so HOT outside, I’ll actually want to use the oven! Being better organized would be a plus too–but that just isn’t me!
What are your favorite movies/TV shows?
Lost is the only TV show I really watch…we don’t have cable, so we just watch it online. My fave movies would probably be The Princess Bride, the Pride & Prejudice movies, the Pirates of the Carribean movies, Zoolander, the Harry Potter movies, Spaceballs…LOL!
When did you start designing?
I started last summer, so it’s been just about a year now.
Describe your “scrapping/designing” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Back room, in the middle of your house?
My hubby & I have a desk in our bedroom & it’s got both our computers on it, so we sit next to each other & talk & laugh while I scrap & design and he plays his computer game. I say “does this look ok” & he says “I like it” & I end up changing it…LOL–we have a system!
What is your FAVORITE product that you’ve designed? (Erica picked two because she wasn’t sure if the one would be in her store at the time of this spotlight)
hmmm…I’d have to lean towards Magical Escape–it’s got that magical/fantasy kind of feeling I just love & it has a lot of my hubby’s drawing in it.

She also picked: Sprite–my collab with Britt-ish Designs…I just LOVE the magical feel it has! If you’ve seen my gallery, you can tell I like doing extractions and I’ve always loved magical/fantasy kinda LOs. I even used it for my blog header!
How would you describe your design style?
That’s a hard one–maybe whimsical & fun?
Where do you get your inspiration for your kits?
Everywhere & anywhere! Could be the beautiful scenery outside or a store display or a color combo I see on clothing…or sometimes I just mess around & make something I like, then I just make a kit around it. (My hubby is forever laughing at me when I see something random & say “oh man, that’d be a cool kit”)
What do you love about ScrapMatters?
EVERYTHING!!! The whole atmosphere is so friendly & warm.. The people ROCK, the challenges are different & fun, the gallery is inspiring & the store is full of fabulous goodies!!
What are some of your favorite layouts?
I think these may be some of my faves–
Which kit of yours did you have the most fun creating and why?
Probably Dragonfly Delight, the colors are just so bright & bold & fun and I love dragonflies (my hubby drew those too!).
Thank you so much Erica and I hope you enjoy it here as much as we’re going to enjoy having you here.
