It’s in the Cards – 5/13

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Hey there everyone!  It’s LuAnn – back again to host the 5/13 It’s in the Cards challenge.

If you have never tried hybrid or are new to it, today’s template is a great way to get a little experience in hybrid!

I know we’re only a few days post-Mother’s Day but I thought “Hey, let’s get a jump on Father’s Day by creating his card early!”  :)

But first, a quick review the rules of the challenge:

*Remember that to earn your Matter of Scrap point for the month you need to photograph and upload your card to the Hybrid Challenge gallery by the end of the month. Then come back here and post it in this thread as well. Make sure to let your hostess know if you use a new product within a week of it’s release – if you do, you get an extra point!*

And here’s our template:

Download the template HERE

Some tips for using this template:

  1. for best results: allow the printed card time to sit before working with it.
  2. for the “knot” of the tie, I kind of finger rounded the edges under a bit to make it “bump up” off the paper and used the burn tool along the edges to give it dimension.
  3. fold the pieces in so that the top points meet right at the top of the tie
  4. I used pop dots under the points of the collar and double sided tape between the collar layers and also to attach the buttons

Here’s my card created using Plum Dumpling Designs’ Lob-STAH kit:

and a close up:

and another I made using a paper from Britt-ish Designs’ Ohana kit (I left off the tie, added 2 rows of stitching and added a square  to create a pocket)

Here’s one from Hybrid Gal Deb using Pedal Pusher by Connie Prince:

and one from fellow paper and glue gal Amanda using  Happy to Be by Scrapmuss Designs:

and a super cool Daddio one from Julie using Road Trip by Creations by Rachel:

So, let’s get creating those cards!!!   Can’t wait to see what you come up with!!!

Hybrid Designer Spotlight

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Hi everyone, Dalis here to give you a Hybrid Designer Spotlight/ Product Review.  Have you tried making a hybrid project before?  Are you intimidated by the sample (or samples) showcased in the kit?  Did you know that Krisi’s Kreations templates include a PDF line file version (when indicated)?  What does that mean to the not so experienced hybrid gal?  That you don’t have to deal w/ layers  or matching sides.  You can just put a piece of colored cardstock in your printer and print the outline of the box and create a wonderful Hybrid project without having to open your image software.

Let’s take the “Not Straight Up: Hybrid Boxes” template from Krisi’s Kreations.  You notice the wonderful creation she did, well she used all the wonderful layers and power of Photoshop to make it… but look a little farther down… my sample is as cute but I just opened her PDF file and printed the outline to purple cardstock.

This is a simple way to get your feet wet with Hybrid Projects starting with baby steps!  Try one of her templates today and let the Hybrid world open it’s doors for you!

Getting Hybrid 2.4.10

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Krisi here with this months Getting Hybrid. We are two days into Hybrid Bootcamp, hopefully we have really peaked your interest and you have learned something new already with the lessons on Printing and Cutting. Tomorrow you will learn more about adhesives and so much more great topics every Monday, Wednesday and Friday this month.

This Getting Hybrid Challenge ties into many of the Bootcamp lessons this month. The challenge this month is to make a hybrid box – any kind that you choose. Think Valentine’s Day, Spring, Easter (get a head start now!), birthday, organization and more. To be fair to those who do not already have a box template from one of our fabulous designers here at ScrapMatters (or from elsewhere) you can get a box by completing the first weeks assignment. Many of you may not to know what to do with the template but Jamie (Simply J Studio) will have a lesson next week on that so I don’t want to go into to many details. So until then keep practicing the different techniques and practice! You don’t have to use a box template, you could modify a box you already have and hybridize it.

If you want to grab a new box template from the store here are a few for you to choose from:

Here are some examples of boxes created by the ScrapMatters Creative Team:

From Cristina
Gift Card Box template by Simply J Studio
Chocolate Kisses by GG Designs

From Jennifer (February Hybrid Guest CT)
Bliss by Andilynn Designs
Matchbox: Candy Boxes by Krisi’s Kreations

and here are a few from the gallery to help inspire you (all linked to the gallery):
From me (Krisi)

From Jaime

From Debra

From Jennifer

As always, here are the guidelines for the challenges at Scrap Matters:
- Entries must be posted in the appropriate challenge gallery (hybrid projects), and in the corresponding thread in the forum (this one)
- You will have until the end of the month (February) to complete your project
- You’ll get 1 point for designing, printing and putting together a hybrid box, and then posting the photo of it in the gallery. If you want some pointers about photographing your hybrid projects see this thread here. You will get a bonus point if you used a new release to complete your project. Plus, I’ll select one entry at random for a bonus challenge point.

Hybrid Bootcamp – Starting Feb. 1 (Today!!)

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Starting Feb. 1, the Hybrid Bootcamp is for anyone who wants to learn more about hybrid! We will be posting 3 lessons each week for the whole month of February, in the Hybrid Is Hot section of the forum. We hope you’ll join us, ask questions, and give hybrid a try! :)
If you’ve already tried hybrid before, I’m sure there will still be some useful tips for you, and you’re more than welcome to share your experiences too!
