I won… Discovered real digi about 6 months later when I was trying to scrap all 800 vacation pics from Mexico. I still have yet to scrap those pics! LOL!

12. What was your 1st LO about?  I don’t have links to the first layout. The very first one I mentioned up above was about my daughter getting her nails done.  I’ll have to look hard to find old Layouts. I am horrified to show them! LOL!

13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)? Watching my kids sports…is that a hobby? I do it at least 6 times a week! My son plays travel baseball and he usually has at least 4 games on a weekend. My daughter is a dancer and cheerleader.

19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…? Hmm…I’m an open book and pretty boring…

20. Can you tell us a little about your scrappin’ style?  I like to call it clean and simple with clusters. I like to cluster but I struggle with lots of elements. I am trying to break out of my box!

21. Favorite LOs that you have done?

Thanks, Jadelyn, for sharing more about you!  It is fun to get to know our CT a little better!

Sunday Spotlight – Meet our Guest Designers!

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

ScrapMatters is proud to feature 4 Guest Designers this month:

*Brine Designs

*Little Green Frog Designs

*PictureDesigns

*WM[squared] Designs

We wanted to find out a little more about them so here are responses from Andrea of Little Green Frog Designs and Sandra of PictureDesigns!

————————————————————————————————

First up:  Little Green Frog Designs

1. Name/username? Andrea / Andrea4376 (aka Little Green Frog Designs)

2. What does “family” mean to you? Will you share with us about yours? Family means the world to me. My hubby and I have just celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary and have been together over 19 yrs. We have an 11 yr old son and an 8 yr old daughter and our world revolves around them. I’m also lucky in that my immediate family is close by – my nan lives next door to my mum and dad and my sister and her family are also a short drive away. We love to get together for special occasions.

3. What is your favorite aspect of being a guest designer? Getting to know a whole new group of customers, designers and CT – it’s a lot of fun.

4. Is there a style, theme or color scheme you tend to gravitate towards often? If so, what? I tend to prefer bright colours against a white background – I think it’s a lot more eye-catching. Style wise I don’t believe I stick to a particular style and love trying out new looks.

5. What is one thing you know now you WISH you had known when you first started designing? How much time I’d spend on promotion and marketing. Luckily I think I’ve finally got myself organised and it doesn’t take quite as long as it used to (and I have a great team behind me to help)

6. Any helpful tips/tricks/shortcuts you’d be willing to share with us? The one thing I do all the time when I scrap or when I am making my previews is sharpen up my layout/preview. I use this method and it rocks!

7. Do you spend more time designing or scrapping?Right now – definitely designing. My scrapping time has shrunk quite considerably but being on 4 CT’s helps me to make time to do occasional pages.8. What types of photos do you enjoy taking most? (family, scenery, action, etc.)I would say the majority of my photos are of my daughter. She’s a total diva and loves playing it up for the camera. My son on the other hand will hole up somewhere until he’s sure the camera has been put away. I only ever get shots of him when we’re out and about and he’s not looking !9. If a magic scrapping/designer fairy could come and grant you ONE wish…..what would it be??An action that would create all the  TIF, PSD, pngs and page files for one template in one press of a button :) That would be so much easier ! lol.10. Where would your dream vacation be?There is only one answer for me and that’s Disney World, Florida. I’ve been so lucky in that I’ve been able to visit 6 times so far and we’ve just booked to return for 3 whole weeks in Oct/Nov 2013. It’s likely it will be our last trip while the kids are kids. You can stay in touch with Little Green Frog Designs at the following links:

Be sure to check out all the goodies she brought with her to the SM store HERE!!!  One of my favorites right now is her new “Now that’s a big picture”.  Do you know WHY?!!  Because I host the “Big Picture Challenge” each month! LOL!!   So, if you don’t have have these templates go grab them while they are still on sale!!!
Thanks to Andrea for giving us a peek at her everyday life and for some helpful tips!!!
——————————————————————————————————-
Next, is Sandra of PictureDesigns!!

1. Name/username?     Hi, I am Sandra of PictureDesigns

2. What does “family” mean to you? Will you share with us about yours?  Family is the most important and always number 1 for me. I grew up with my parents, a little sister and a little brother and we still are best friends and care about each other.  I hope my own kids will also learn how important it is to have your family. I have the luck, to have most of my family members around me, we all are living in the same small village.

3. What is your favorite aspect of being a guest designer?  I looove meeting new scrappers and designers around the world and as a guest-designer you always meet many lovely people. I just LOVE it.  And because I am a relatively new designer it`s also a great chance to get my name out there a bit more and see how the different stores are organized. That`s fun and exciting.

3. What do you find difficult to design? (themes, products, etc.) Easiest?  Right now I am testing everything! I mean really everything. Some things did not work at all, but I tried them ;-)   I unfortunately can`t draw good, so that`s the most difficult part for me..

4. What is your favorite kind of item to design? I would say the papers and the bows and ribbons.. I bought many different ones.

5. Is there a style, theme or color scheme you tend to gravitate towards often? If so, what?  Not yet, see No. 3 (still testing everything)

6. How did you learn to design?  The moment I discovered digital scrapbooking I wanted immediately create my own stuff.. that was about 6 years ago. At this time I read tutorials and started making freebies (gosh they were soooo ugly!!)..  Because I also was a hobby-photographer I then soon bought PS and made some online-trainings and bought books and video-tutorials to learn this huge program.  I always tried to learn new design-things and I was reading millions of tutorials and tried to find out how to do them myself….

7. What is one thing you know now you WISH you had known when you first started designing?  I made no notes and didn`t save the styles or patterns I made themselves to use them again later… I wish I would have done this to save the time making everything again and again.

8. Any helpful tips/tricks/shortcuts you’d be willing to share with us?  Discovering the difference between the blend modes “multiply” and “linear burn” was a huge thing for me as a scrapper.  And instead of sharpening with the sharping filters its sometimes better to duplicate the layer, add the filter high pass and set the blend mode to soft light or overlay.

9. Do you spend more time designing or scrapping?  Right now, I unfortunately don`t find the time to scrap, because my free time is really rare at the moment, but after finishing 2 huge projects this year I will have a lot ofmore time and can`t wait to scrap all the pictures a have already taken!

10. What types of photos do you enjoy taking most? (family, scenery, action, etc.)  Family and animals… ooooh and flowers of course to extract them later for my kits… ;-)

11. If a magic scrapping/designer fairy could come and grant you ONE wish…..what would it be??  That`s a secret ;-)

12. Where would your dream vacation be?  I am really dreaming of a trip around the world.. so after I am back I will tell you where I loved it most.

There are some gorgeous kits in her store that she brought for us, check those out HERE!!  Her “Sweet Life” is just adorable!  Look at all the goodies to cluster with!  The colors are bright and happy and really this could be used for a lot of themes and can work for both boys and girls if scrapping kids!  Gotta love that!!
Thanks so much, Sandra, for giving us peek at your designing life and thanks for the tips!!

We have Wendy of WM[squared] here this month as well! Some of you may remember she used to sell at SM so we are thrilled to have her back with us this month!  Here is what she had to say…
1. Name/username?Wendy / WM[squared] Designs2. What is your favorite aspect of being a guest designer? Seeing all the new faces I see here has been fun! Also hanging out with familiar ones too

3. What do you find difficult to design? (themes, products, etc.) Easiest? I find child/kid themed kits hard, since I don’t have any! The easiest would be the great escape kits, since i’ve been to all the places i’ve designed!

4. What is your favorite kind of item to design? Layered elements – buildings, etc.

5. Is there a style, theme or color scheme you tend to gravitate towards often? If so, what? Lately it’s been kraft anything with gray.

6. How did you learn to design? I taught myself!

7. Any helpful tips/tricks/shortcuts you’d be willing to share with us? It’s not really a trick, just save save save! Nothing is worse than spending hours on an element, only to have Photoshop crash on you!

8. Do you spend more time designing or scrapping? Designing! I don’t think i’ve scrapped in more than a year!

9. What types of photos do you enjoy taking most? (family, scenery, action, etc.) All of the above. I love taking family shots, but at the same time, taking photos of something like Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower is amazing too!

10. If a magic scrapping/designer fairy could come and grant you ONE wish…..what would it be?? More hours in the day so I could scrap *and* design

11. Where would your dream vacation be? Italy

I was over the moon!!  Although I still need to feel paper and/or fabric from time to time I have to say that I couldn’t be happier with this clutter free hobby! Besides a creative outlet it brought me a whole world of digital friendships too! Friends that I cherish just as much as the ones I have in real life!

12. What was your 1st LO about? Here’s my first attempt. I made it in February 2009 and I cannot even call it a scrap LIFT from a layout by Ju Kneipp I tried to copy it exactly except I used my own photo. I worked on it for several days until I thought I got it right. Learned A LOT on shadowing  while I was at it. I think I used 2 tutorials that I found on the Internet.

13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)? Actually I do have another hobbies but I combine them with designing and scrapping. I love to paint, photograph, draw, crochet, embroider , sew and knit! I used to use put hand made crochet flowers on my paper pages, paint on them, machine stitch, you name it I probably did it. Now I make the flowers, scan or photograph them and put them in my designs!  The photos I take I scrap with!

Here is a Flower pack exclusive to ScrapMatters right now!

14. What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you? The most challenging is to find the time to design AND scrap a page from time to time.

15. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking? I would like to learn to speak Portuguese.

16. What are your favorite movies/TV shows? Favorite movies: Lord of the Rings, Lethal Weapon series, Die Hard series, Mission Impossible, Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean, the Matrix, Legally Blonde and Bridget Jones Diary.   Favorite TV-shows: House, Dexter, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek, Bones, Spooks and Vampire Diaries.

17. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where? I use my scraproom to design in. Just drink and a little snack sometimes. For both I will have to get up and go the kitchen and when I am on a roll I tend to forget and just keep going. Definitely music unless I need to read or write.

18. If you only had 2 elements to use on a LO, what would they be? Flowers and some stitching. I think I could make that work for me.

19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…? I am REALLY organized.

20. When did you start designing? What made you get in to design work? See question 11, I spilled the beans there already…

21. How would you describe your design style? Well that’s a tough one! I think you can recognize me in all my designs although I try different things and techniques. So I must have a certain style huh? I can’t give you a name but what I can say is that I definitely like to put a little humor in everything I create and also like the realistic paper look. Someone also called it fancifully vintage.

22. Where do you get your inspiration/motivation? Well actually I get inspired by the world around me. Anything can trigger my creative juices: a song I hear on the radio, a pattern on a napkin or skirt, a topic in a magazine or a magazine cover, a conversation I hear, you name it. Pinterest is a favorite source of inspiration at the moment. Tons of inspirational pictures at my disposal with just a click of the mouse. So I guess I should say that ‘everyday life’ is my biggest inspiration. On top of that I get brilliant suggestions on kit themes by my fabulous CT-members!

23. Which of your kits showcases you style the most? Haven’t got a clue…I think they all show a little something of me.

24. What is your favorite color scheme to design with? Fun and bright colors.

25. Favorite kit you’ve designed? That’s like asking who your favorite child is!!!

Pink Reptile Designs has all kinds of goodies in her store including alphas, masks, element packs and some amazing kits like this ScrapMatters exclusive:

We enjoyed getting to learn more about you, Mirjam,  and I hope you are enjoying your month with us at ScrapMatters!  You can see more of Pink Reptile Designs in her shop HERE.

Sunday Spotlight – SMG Stefanie!!

Sunday, March 4th, 2012

This week we caught up with one of our new SMG girls, Stefanie!  She was recently added to our team during the last call and I’m thrilled she is such an active member in our SM community!  Here’s a little info to get to know her better:

1. Your screen name? Your real name? My real name is Stefanie and my screen name is Eyeore,
only because Stefanie was already taken. I love Eyeore from Winnie the Pooh because I can
identify that he takes the blame for stuff when it really isn’t his fault and that we are both
glass half empty types.

2. What is your main job/career? I am a stay at home mother of three older children but I also teach paper scrapbooking from my studio at home every week. I also sell Avroy Shlain skin care products.

3. Are you married/children/pets? I have been married for 23 years, we have three children: Joshua (18), Caleb (15) and Hannah (12) and we have 4 cats.

4. Where is home for you? I live in Cape Town, South Africa. One of the best places in the world.

5. What are your 3 favorite foods? Chocolate, roast chicken with potatoes and veggies, steak and
chips.

6. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? I had some in America that had a vanilla base with
chopped up bits of chocolate and peanut butter cups.

7. Snacks…Salty or Sweet? Both, I can alternate them quite happily.

8. Beverage of choice? Something that is diet and caffeine free, we have Tab (like cola) and Sprite
(lemonade)

9. What’s your least favorite food? Seafood.

10. PC or Mac? What program do you use? PC, I have PSE 9.

11. How long have you been digi-scrapping? How did you get started? Almost 3 years now I think. I started with hybrid, adding brushes, frames and journaling to my photos. I took some classes from Jessica Sprague and when I found a local place that I could get my LO’s printed at a reasonable cost, I swapped to totally digi around July 2010.

12. What was your 1st LO about? I can’t really remember. I know that I deleted a whole lot of my early stuff when I got a bit better – was so embarrassed, but here are a couple.

13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)? Yes I love
reading and host a book club once a month at my home too. Christian romantic suspense.

14. What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you? Deciding what to scrap about. Sometimes I have a kit I need to create with for a DT I am on and I have no cooking clue where to go with it.

15. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking? Photography and editing of photos.

16. What are your favorite movies/TV shows? CSI, NCIS, Body of Proof, the Defenders, Modern Family, Love bites.

17. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where?
I sometimes listen to a podcast otherwise it is very quiet, no drinks or snacks unless the mojo stops flowing and I need a little break. Then it’s coffee and a rusk. I have my pc set up within my studio.

18. If you only had 2 elements to use on a LO, what would they be? Some form of attachments; brads, stitching or staples and flowers with greenery.

19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…? I was born in Germany and came to South Africa when I was 4. I can speak English and Afrikaans and German to some degree. I have a BSc in Zoology.

20. Can you tell us a little about your scrappin’ style? I love doubles with loads of photos and enough space for journaling. Clean and simple, often using a template as a starting point. I really battle to cluster.

21. Favorite LOs that you have done?

22. How long have you been a member at ScrapMatters? I followed Elise’s Pieces to ScrapMatters last year and was just settling in when she moved on again.

23.  Do you have any suggestions for kits you’d like to see in the SM store? I would love a kit about reading or bookclubs.

24.  What is your favorite part of being a member of the ScrapMatters Girls? Being a part of the community and having fun, there really is so much happening in terms of challenges and speedscraps that you can pick and choose. So much inspiration in the galleries too. A team of fabulous designers and lots of lovely comments left on layouts posted.

25. What is one thing you tend not to use on layouts? I struggle to use lined journalers. I usually have too much to say to fit them in the space and getting the leading to match is more trouble than it’s worth.

26. How long have you lived in your city? Wow if I say 41 years does that make me old?

27. What is your favorite childhood memory and have you scrapped it? Gathering around the table for family meals every Sunday with the extended family. Believe it or not my grandparents died when I was 13 and in “those days” we didn’t take photos of the ordinary everyday things like eating lunch together. Photos were too expensive to waste. Sadly no photos, no layout.

Thanks for letting us get to know you better, Stefanie!

Sunday Spotlight – Ramona of Memory Clips

Sunday, February 19th, 2012

We were fortunate enough to catch up with Ramona of Memory Clips this week and ask her a few questions about her and her designing business!!  How awesome to get to know her a little better!  She is one of our newer designers, but has just jumped in with both feet!  WOOT!

1. Your screen name? Your real name? Ramona/Ramona!

2. What is your main job/career? I’m a stay at home mom to 6 great, but busy kids!

3. Are you married/children/pets? I’ve been married for 16 years. We have 6 children from ages 14 to 2. We tried pets, once or twice, and well, we’re doing good just to keep track of the kids! Maybe someday!

4. Where is home for you? We have lived in lots of different places, but northern Utah is what we consider home! We love it here!

5. What are your 3 favorite foods? cheese enchiladas, greek yogurt with blueberries and bacon.

6. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? I don’t eat a lot of ice cream, as it makes me sick, but I do love a recipe I make using coconut milk, spinach, peppermint flavoring and chocolate chips! It’s exactly like a mint chocolate chip!

7. Snacks…Salty or Sweet? Both-at the same time!

8. Beverage of choice? water with lemon

9. What’s your least favorite food? avocados

10. PC or Mac? What program do you use? PC. I design with Photoshop, CS5

11. How long have you been digi-scrapping? How did you get started? I started digiscrapping in February of 2008, so 4 years ago this month. I was an avid paper scrapper before that and had started making siggies for online forums using Corel PSP 3 years before that. Digiscrapping was a perfect mix!

12. What was your 1st LO about? It was about my 2 daughters and was actually scrapped a year before I found that actual kits could be purchased. This was done with the tubes in PSP. It’s pretty scary!

13. Do you have any other hobbies besides digi-scrapping (are there other hobbies)? I love to write! I have been writing novels since I was in elementary school. I’ve not been published yet, but hopefully someday. Journaling is one of my favorite parts of scrapping, because I get to use my words to tell the story!

14. What is the most challenging part of scrapbooking for you? Finding the right photos. I much, much prefer photoless layouts!

15. What would you like to learn to do (or do better) not related to scrapbooking? I have recently started sewing, just simple projects, but I would like to become really, really good at it!

16. What are your favorite movies/TV shows? My all time favorite movie is “Pride and Prejudice”. My favorite tv shows are Modern Family and Parenthood!

17. Describe your “scrapping” environment. Music? TV in the background? Drinks? Snacks? Where? I love to scrap and design with the tv on in the background! I am a political news junkie, so this is my favorite background noise when I work! My desk is set up in our family room, so I can always be part of the action, even if I’m sneaking in some scrap time!

18. If you only had 2 elements to use on a LO, what would they be? Flowers and stitching.

19. Would you like to share a little known fact about you…? I can’t think of anything. I’m a very open book-so most people who know me, know it all! For better or for worse!

20. When did you start designing? What is your favorite product that you’ve designed? I started designing in April of 2008, right after discovering the digiscrap world. I think my favorite products ever, are my templates. I love to design kits, but I’m not always as happy with them, as I am my templates.

21. How would you describe your design style? I think that I am still a paper scrapper at heart, so my style is reflected in that. I love big photos and lots of layers and a big title and journaling. I rarely do white space layouts, as I love to fill the page with goodies!

22. Where do you get your inspiration/motivation? I am inspired by a lot of things, but mostly things I want to scrap for myself. I use pinterest a lot to get ideas, as well. I love pinterest for finding color combos and looking at crafts and home design that I then reflect in my kits.

23. Which of your kits showcases your style the most?
I think it would be my kit, Curious You. It’s bright and playful with a good mix of neutrals. I don’t do a lot of graphic type kits (because I really can’t draw!), so I love ribbons and borders and elements that are fun to cluster together!

24. What is your favorite color scheme to design with? Anything with turquoise in it!

#25. Favorite kit you’ve designed? I love my latest release! It is a revamp from a favorite one released a year ago, but I love this new one even more! I love its softness and the theme is just perfect for lots of different layouts for family and friends!
Love U Still

Ramona…these are gorgeous!!  If you don’t have these in your collection you can click on the preview images or see her whole store HERE!
